If the oil smells like the fuel then does you engine knock or lost compression? fuel can leak past the piston if the rings are bad and the vehicle doesn't start easily.Modern synthetic oils can smell different so borrow another nose for a second opinion.Also test the oil... put a single drop in a metal pan and throw a match at it. Oil wont ignite straight away and will burn slow only once it has reached ignition temperature, any fuel in the oil will cause an explosive flash almost immediately

If you are getting a clicking sound when you turn the key then power is getting to the starter so there is no need to worry about a relay. For some reason there just isn't enough. Check and clean your wire and cable ends free of corrosion and make sure they are all tight. It could easily be that simple. It could also be that one of the wires down at the starter is not making good contact with the terminal end,so give them all a tug to make sure.If this is all good then I would say you are in the market for a new starter and solenoid. Sounds like you have a charging problem. Guessing if you go out to your vehicle now your battery will be dead. I hope not for your sake but if things started shutting down and the battery light was on this would be the case. The battery light doesn't really mean a bad battery. In most cases it indicates a charging problem like the alternator. There is a main fuse in the fuse box under the hhod of the vehicle that could have blown. See picture below of the fuse I am talking about. Now I hope it is just a fuse but there may be a reason it blew if it did. Not trying to be negative but with the amount of miles on your vehicle, anything is possible due to age as well. I hope this helps and good luck.

Hello and welcome to Fixya!As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive batter connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. before reconnecting it.
