Can a water pump in the northstar engine be sluggish?
This engine may possibly have a blown head gasket. You need to have the car block tested with a two stage block tester to see if there are any exhaust gases in the cooling system. (Should be done by someone qualifed).
Ac problems
Either connection is bad to low pressure sensor or pressure sensor is faulty.
HOW DO i GET THE AIR OUT OF MY COOLING SYSTEM?
welltere are two ways that this can be done ,One is the professional way that takes about fifteen minutes with a cooling system tester (Tool) and the second way the back woods method that takes about two hours you start with a cool car and take off the radiator cap ,start car and allow to idle to warm up takes like 20 minutes , let idle and and keep addng back any fluid that spills out run for like an hour like that topp off any lost fluid level , put car back on tight and run for at least 30 more minutes , drive car normal or shut off and allow to cool, that should take care of it but is not repeat but allow car to cool off completly 1st
How do I bleed air out of my cooling system?
with the rad cap off run car until its at operating temperature and the cooling fan has cycled and the coolant level is full. run the motor rpm after a while up and down to make sure the level is full.
What is the highest temperature that a northstar engine was designed to tolerate?
Not sure what the max temp would be. Info should be in owners manual. Or get online info free at your local library, they have access to online service manuals. Sounds like you may have a bad thermostat. When replacing the rad its a good idea to replace the t/stat at the same time. Large fluctuations in temp can be caused by air in the system. Many vehicles can have a very strange procedure to make sure all the air is out of the system. If yours has you need to follow it as described, otherwise air entrapment will occur and this is one of the results.
Where are the spark plugs?
Under the Exaust manifolds. Hard to get to the ones near the firewall. May have to acces them from beneath the motor.
I have a 1997 cadillac
Check the waterpump and thermostat. When the waterpump doesn't turn, engine heat is not transported to the radiator. When the thermostat doesn't open once warm the same happens - no engine cooling.
The radiator should be hot op top and cooler at the bottom. If it's cold allover then there's no cooling fluid transport
What other issue in the northstar that mimicks an alternator problem?
alternators have only have 3 indications of faults
1 no charge
2 over charge
3 noise
With no charge the battery will continually run down and the charge light will be on
With over charge there will be a very hot battery and the smell of sulphuric acid
with noise it will be a high pitched whistle (brushes) or a rumble from a bearing. This noise can be replicated by a bad water pump bearing, bad ac bearing ,bad idler pulley bearing bad power steering bearing or any other item being driven by the drive belt that has bearings.
IT would have helped if you were more specific as to the problems you are having.
