Clicking at the starter is usually caused by a weak battery or cables . Why didn't you jump at the battery ? Did you hook it up right , positive to positive ? You messed something up ! Better take it to the dealer !

I'm having the same problem on my 86. Brake lights won't work. All the running lights/turn signals/reverse lights work. I put in a new turn signal switch/harness and new brake light switch with no change. Still no brake lights. Any help would be highly appreciated

Check the brake switch above the pedal.

Do you have normal fuel pressure and spark ?

Does the static change with engine speed? If so there are filters you can put in the power wire to the radio

check the firing order and timing after a distributor replacement

on the line, lube the seals and make sure nothing is inside hole.

had a 1999 suburban do the same thing the new pump came complete with sending unit and a new end plug the connecters are bad about getting moister in them at the top of pump and corroding did you change the plug part stores should sell these if you did not get one i found this out after changing my pump 3 times same thing also found cheap pumps the wiring going through the pump plastic at plug is very small and gets hot and melts when it cools it shrinks back and makes connection runs for a while then stops

check the oil level.
