What degree do I set my engine to for a 1991 Camaro 305 V8 ?
Try 0 degrees. It should state it on the radiator cover, but mine didn't. I tried 10 advance and it started real hard. I think you need to disconnect the single wire terminal near the distributor/coil that sticks out of your harness wrap before you set timing and reconnect it afterwards. That's what I recall from my TPI car and this TBI car seems to have the same electronics. Good luck.

engine starts, reaches high rpm, then slowly returns to a rough idle, misses badly,no backfire, surges as if searching/adjusting air/ fuel/est,timing light shows mark constantly changing/erratic,engine then races to high rpm, only at that time(high rpm)does timing mark maintain correct 10 deg consistently, then returns to rough poor idle- engine cycles like this and wont maintain proper timing mark alignment until high rpm... anyone care to reply about this??? and what would be probable cause / possible solution? Thanks.
Vacuum leaks. Check all hoses and intake bolts. Leaking EGR or plugged PCV valve. Air filter plugged. Leaking head gasket. Worn timing chain. Camshaft lobes worn. Valves burned or leaking. Fuel idle control system or sensor. Good luck!

How hard is it to replace the recliner mechanism on the front driver's seat? The dealer wanted over $200 to do it.
We bought a used seat to use the parts from it. It doesn't look too difficult, but I just wondered if there are any surprises I need to know about.
the recliner is the outside seat hinge and has 4 bolts holding it to the seat cushion and seat back. The seat covers need to be pulled back to gain access to bolts. Can be done with seat in the vehicle.

It will start, run abot 30 seconds and die like it's running out of gas. We have changed the fuel pressure regulater, fuel pump, fuel filter. It has fuel pressure, could the injectors be clogged? I really think it's fuel related. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
I'm willing to bet you have bad fuel injectors. Back in 91 they had a problem with on injector shorting out causing the rest to short out. I have a 91 that had the same problem, and my injectors were junk.

91 camaro 305 tpi runs rough at idle sometimes stalls and has power loss
tune up-read your plugs and then check your timing. use timing light and double check with scan tool-most 91 305's were high outputs which
requires higher octane than regular (fuel grade revelatnt to compression ratio and altitude) you may want to check fuel pressure could be a clogged filter or bad pump.

Engine Diagram Chevy Small Block 305. Have coolant leak at the back of the engine that I am trying to identify
could be from the intake manifold or a frost plug, pressurize the cooling system and use a mirror to check the rear of the engine, check the intake at the head and the frost plugs at the back of the engine, if you can.t find it get under the car and try again, it may be leaking between the bell housing and the block, then removal of the trans will be necessary

engine runs but you have to feather gas pedal to keep running . is this a fuel pump problem or carb.
For a problem like this there could be many things wrong. Fuel pump, filter, fuel pressure regulator, clogged injectors on the throttle body, bad plugs, distributor cap, rotor or plug wires or just bad gas. I would start with the cap/rotor. It is the easiest thing to get to and easiest to check. After that the plugs and wires. If all of this is good use the check engine light and pull the codes. This will tell you if any sensors are out. After that if the problem is still there run a heavy dose of fuel system cleaner through the gas and then change the fuel filter. If none of this helps the last thing it could be is the timing. If it is hard to start and wants to die out while idling the timing could be off or the vacumn advance hose could be disconnected. If any of this helps or you just want more information please feel free to contact me,.
