1998 Chevy Silverado won't shift regularly or manually.

C1500 ? or K1500 or what? silverado is trim. name. mine had a M/T transmission. never failed me.(stick shift box, zero slush) so what do you have under the hood engine and trans. they tend to match by that factor, due to torque ratings. 5.7 liter there are 3 engines.with 4L60E box. my guess Miles on truck 250K? I guess is A/T box, automatic transmission is car 4wd or not? the box has PRNDL shifter lever. does it fail in R and L too? or just DRIVE? or all 3. DRIVE FAILURES (types , evidence)_ car will not move in drive, L or R/ drive? drive works only in 1st gear? drive stuck in 2nd gear.? 1>2, 2>3 or 3>?4 up fail? or upshifts to false neutrals, aka. FLARE? fails to down shift correctly? TCC fails to lockup tranny makes loud nasty noises? cures? and tests: will on car tests are limited on any complex A/t box shift linkage all 100% good and tested ? 1: fuses all good. 2: SCAN the PCM (tcm) OBD2 port yet 3: ATF fluid levels correct not guessing Read how. 3b: ATF does not look like TAR nor smell burned. 4: do the service manual pump pressure port test using 300psi hand held gauge? in PRNDL , 5 tests? that is it, OTTOMH scan it or go broke guessing not posting all evidence first is inviting wrong answers. I refuse to guess, only how to do to the tests. the shop manual on box is here, blue book https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=atsg+4L60e&_sacat=0 to post i guessed engine and trans. sadly.

1998 Chevy Silverado 2500. I just had ignition harness changed and the horn and Daytime Running Lights went out. What can I do?

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to Model Category. Take it back to the garage and ask them to fix the problem under the warranty on the job. They are working before and now they aren't. They left something disconnected, blew fuses or damaged a relay.

1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.7 motor. I think my friend put the rotor to the distributor back on wrong? which way should it go on please?

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to model category/ They can only go in one way. The is a notch in the rotor that has to fit on the shaft. It put on wrongly, you can't get the cap on. Take the cap off and try to turn the rotor. It should not move, and be locked in place. Video https://www.google.com/search?q=98+chevy+silverado+distributor+rotor+replacement ..

98 silverado parking lights not working

Have you checked fuses? the most common problem is a bad fuse, make sure to check the fuses located under the hood ,check them all, there are light modules and other components that run power to tail lights. also if you use the tow hitch and light hook up and the fuse is bad then also check and see if fuse pops with trailer connected ,if it does then check wiring on trailer lights

I believe that I have a short in the wiring at the passenger side. A switch to the dom light is really walbling.

I found a video that should work fine for you. If you have a short in the wiring, you would likely have a blown fuse. Whatever you do, double check that the fuse is good. 98 chevy dome lights-rif2ufylwu52zjamz0ty4aq0-3-0.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwaQSJZymFU

98 Chevy Silverado Exhaust

go for deep and loud and the road department will love you for the extra revenue you will be providing with the fines next the fuel companies will be loving you as well because deep and loud is poor performance and that means extra profits for them you are replacing an exhaust system but leaving the stock headers on and not putting extractors on what you need to do is go up 1/2" in pipe size, refit cat converters ( gets you past the smog tests), remove any unnecessary bends and fit the correct muffler best if you rethink what you want and talk with an exhaust shop specialist as to what you need to get performance , pass the regulations , get economy and still come up with a lower frequency noise one thing that you haven't considered is this fact --- deep and loud contribute to driver drowsiness on trips and that makes you loose awareness and fall asleep at the wheel

I just replaced my engine with a used engine from a 2 wh. I have a 1998 chevy Silverado wh the oil sending unit is too big drive shafts in the way for a fitter .what do I do?

You should be able to get a sending unit off the old engine and it should be the same, just a different angle or smaller, or get a new one for the 98, not the year of the new engine.

The best and probably only option in this case would be to buy a remote oil filter kit. Just be sure to choose one for your specific engine. Advance Adapters Oil Filter Relocation Kits 716083

How does a guy replace the turn signal actuator in the steering column in a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado

It is a multifunction switch that you have to replace. It is easier to remove the steering wheel first. However, it can be done without removing the wheel, with a little encouragement. Next, you need to remove the steering column cover, and the knee panel. Once all the panels are removed, follow the wiring harness from the multi-switch to the plug and unplug it. Remove the switch from the column and reverse procedure for install. Should take about an hour to an hour and a half.

Turn signals will not come on either side or front n back i replaced flasher still won't function.

make sure the ground strap from the frame to the body is solid and not corroded. A lot of electrical probs are caused by poor ground. Sounds like maybe the switch of wiring to the switch is questionable.
