You need to get a better idea of what the smoke is. Is it petrol or diesel? Does the smoke linger or disappear quickly? If it is a small amount that disappears quickly it isn't likely to be a big issue. If there is a lot of smoke get someone else to help as you reverse it out and try and see what colour the actual smoke is. The colour will give a better clue as to the problem. It could be slightly coloured as blue, black, grey or white. See the attached image for what they could mean.

Usualy just half twist and it will come out and usualy ur park globe is joined to ur headlight in same bulb just double check

probly need a tuneup--change plugs and wires--test coils------electrics get worn and over heat w age and need time to cool

here> 1.1L, very hard to find photo of gen2 engine x is water outlet thermostat should be there. drain RAD fully or half way , pull hose there. at X and unbolt the housing to find thermostat. a new gasket is a must.

Support the engine, remove ball joints from the lower control arms, disconnect the tie rod ends, remove all cables and wiring from the box. Remove the transaxle or sub frame. Then only the gearbox can be removed.

Check the transmission fluid level.change out the fluid if tainted.

it is possible that it is a fuel pump, but seeing that i can not hear it or find the exact location i am afraid i can not help you. I would make sure i put the correct weight gear oil in it though. Maybe the gearbox needs a full service to include filter and fluid but i can not tell from here if it is holding a gear to long and not shifting properly creating what you are hearing or not.

Make sure that the wiring to the hatch are intact.
