I suspect that the insulator that seals the selector lever to the floor and the lever inside the car is allowing engine heat ,road heat to enter the cab past the gear lever. IT is common problem if the insulator rots or is not replaced after gear box removal say for clutch replacement.

Take it back! If you bought it as is do this. Retrieve radio code and any other preset. This is called a "hard reset" and will return all modules to their factory settings, disconnect both battery cables and touch them together for 30 or more seconds then reconnect and see what happens. There is a check valve in the pressure regulator just for that purpose. it probably needs changing.
