I cant figure out how to use my wireless remote

Set the camera's release mode to one of the two remote modes. The quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. The delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote before your back.To change the release mode, press the [i] button to put the cursor into the information display. Use the cursor pad to move the cursor to the fifth item from the top and press [OK]. Use the cursor pad to select the desired mode and press [OK].Full details are in the "Release Mode" section of the manual (page 35 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one here.

Can I use the ML-L3 remote with a D-3100? I have

No. The ML-L3 works with many but not all Nikon DSLRs. It does not work with the D3100. The D3100 uses the MC-DC2 remote cord.

Ml-l3 not working

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume it was simply a matter of setting the camera to a remote mode.

What is best setting on

That depends on what you want to do. The camera has two remote modes, the quick-response and the delayed. The quick-response mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. This is useful if you mount the camera on a tripod and want to shoot without touching the camera. The delayed mode waits two seconds before firing the camera. This is useful for group portraits, giving you the time to hide the remote behind your back before the picture is taken.

As for the exposure and other settings, again, that depends on what you want to do. In general, you can use the same settings you would use if you weren't using the remote.

Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Battery door jammed

When battery doors get jammed usually it is either as a result of the spring mechanism being spoilt or an external item holding the door back. But most times if the door is being opened for the first time then it is because the cover has stayed shut for so long a time that a seal has formed there all you have to do is try applying a bit of force on it and it should pop open. If you are sure the lock mechanism has been freed then just apply a bit of force and that should do the trick.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

ML3 REMOTE USERS GUIDE needed in english

Nikon really doesn't have a user's guide for the ML-L3. It comes with a slip of paper telling you how to change the battery, and that's about it. The thing only has one button on it, after all.The precise steps for using the remote vary from camera to camera. If your camera works with the ML-L3, there will be something in the camera's manual telling you how. It's usually called "Release Mode" or "Shooting Mode." Basically, you set the camera to a remote mode, then use the button on the remote instead of the shutter release button on the camera.

How to use the mc-dc2

There's only one button on the MC-DC2. Just plug it into the appropriate jack on the camera. You don't need to change any settings on the camera. The button on the MC-DC2 now does exactly what the shutter release button on the camera does. The only exception is when the shutter speed is set to bulb. In this case the shutter remains open as long as the button is held down. There's a hold ring around the button on the remote; press the button and slide the ring in the direction of the arrow to hold the button down. Slide the ring in the other direction to close the shutter.

How do you take a

For really long exposures (longer than 30 seconds) you need to set the camera to the Manual exposure mode and set the shutter speed to bulb. This keeps the shutter open as long as you hold down the shutter release button. Since this is inconvenient, a much easier way is with the remote.

Press the [info] button to bring up the shooting information display. Press the [i] button to put the cursor into the display. Use the cursor keys to move to the release mode (fifth item from the top along the right edge) and press the OK button. The Quick-response remote mode (marked with an icon of the remote control) fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. the Delayed remote mode (marked with the remote and "2s") gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back when taking self-portraits.

In either of the remote modes, when the shutter speed is set to bulb the shutter opens when you press the button on the remote and stays open until you press the button again (or the camera battery dies). This way you can press the button, go and do something else for a while, then come back and press the button again.

Information on the release modes is in the "Release Mode" section of the manual (page 65 in my copy). Information on using the remote control is in the "Self-Timer and Remote Modes" section of the manual (page 67 in my copy).

ML-L3 remote was working then

Set the camera's shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. The quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you push the button on the remote. The delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter. Now point the remote at the infrared sensor on the front of the camera and push the button. If the camera fires, then everything is working.

You might also try wiping both the infrared sensor on the camera and the emitter on the remote with a soft clean cloth.
