It may require rather more than a bit of a shake! Some makers say that you have to swing it gently form side to side for 200-300 times to fully wind up the watch.
I bought one some years ago that didn't work well and I had it cleaned, after which it worked perfectly for years.
If giving your watch the shaking I described above it still does not work, try having it cleaned.
Automatic watches thrive on being used but should run for 2-3 days before stopping.

No worries - just replace the battery. As the battery was fitted at the time of watch assembly, it is actually already old. The seconds hand movement by 5sec increments indicates low battery power, so, next time you see that - you will know what to do.

If you go to their web site,http://www.jacques-lemans.com/site2010/?Site=Haendlersuche&Nation=94 you will see that there appears to be only one dealer in France!
I find this surprising but if you contact them you may be able to find out if there is also a dealer in Paris who handles these watches.
