4 months is pretty poor. Jacque Lemans is not a very good brand, I would stop throwing more money at it. Put it down to experience and get another watch. Many many good brands out there, you don't have to spend a fortune. Seiko for instance make quality watches throughout the price range from $50 to $50k!

Extra hand is for GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Gently pull on the "knob" on the side of the watch. You may have to get your fingernails between the watch edge and the knob. It will pull out a little bit, then a little more. One position will change the time. The other position will change the date (if it has a date function) If it has multiple knobs/buttons, it is typically the one on the right side that doesn't have smooth edges.

Yes, unfortunately that happens quite a bit, Some companies will discontinue bands for some of their best sellers... Best way is to get ahold of the company and send them the numbers on the watch and they can send you another band.

It may require rather more than a bit of a shake! Some makers say that you have to swing it gently form side to side for 200-300 times to fully wind up the watch.

I bought one some years ago that didn't work well and I had it cleaned, after which it worked perfectly for years.

If giving your watch the shaking I described above it still does not work, try having it cleaned.

Automatic watches thrive on being used but should run for 2-3 days before stopping.

No worries - just replace the battery. As the battery was fitted at the time of watch assembly, it is actually already old. The seconds hand movement by 5sec increments indicates low battery power, so, next time you see that - you will know what to do.

I find this surprising but if you contact them you may be able to find out if there is also a dealer in Paris who handles these watches.
