I agree with Larry, it sounds like bad capacitors on the power supply board. If you are going to pull the back off yourself, just make sure you unplug the TV from everything, especially the wall socket. Good caps have flat tops. Bad caps have bulging tops, sometimes with a brownish fluid leaking out.
