Are you able to rotate the bowl? You know it locks in place if the lid is on because of the safety interlock that goes into the base? Remove the lid and in the channel, you should see the lock pin rise. If it doesn't jiggle it. You can also press it from the top to help it spring up.

You don't say what model, but all Cuisinarts have a safety interlock built in to the bowl assembly. The cover must be removed from the bowl to release this interlock before you can remove the bowl from the motor base.
