I have a 46 inch Hitachi Ultravision that when powered on gets stuck in standby ... the red light turns off for a few seconds (normally the blue light turns on) but now the red light comes back. There is a video signal going to the TV so its not the cable ... I did turn the power main switch off for a few hours and the tv worked ... but the problem has now returned ... any ideas

SOURCE: Hitachi 32LD8700 - TV won't turn on although has power

The general problem with LCD type TV's is that the power supply fails. They are very sophisticated designs that are difficult to troubleshoot and generally best to just replace the module, but sometimes there is visible damage in some of the electrolytic capacitors (visibly bulged) and high voltage rated parts can be substituted.

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

SOURCE: won't turn on

Hi, everyone. Me too have the same problem. TV just stays in red but won't turn to blue. I tried unplugging then wait and restart again, sometimes it will work but lately that trick doesn't work anymore. Then somebody suggested to open the back of the tv (it's not hard... just a lot of screws and a couple of bolts to remove) and clean (vacuum) the exhaust fan. Out of frustration, I did open the back and clean the the fan (has a lot of dust on the blades) and everywhere where there is dust. Just be careful not to touch any part of the printed circuit board with the vacuum nozzle to eliminate the destructive effect of static electricity. Or while you're cleaning it you have to hold the metal frame with your other hand to ground yourself (by the way you have to unplug your tv before you start opening the back). After the cleaning then covering the back, the tv worked... for only a few hours. It did stop working again as soon as I turned it off then on again. Again I opened the back, this time I removed the power supply board ( that's the biggest board and located above where you connect all your wirings). Got myselt a small brush and start brushing and vacuuming the dust out. I don't know if the cleaning did the trick or it was the unplugging of the connectors from the power supply board. All these work did the job... my tv is still working for almost three weeks now. Another thing, when you have a a time warner cable with a dvr box where you can program its remote to power most of your equipment in sequence by pressing the remote power button, I set it so that the tv will be powered up last considering that power can fluctuate everytime a unit starts up specially when they are all connected to the same power/surge protector... tv doesn't like it when the power fluctuates while it is still starting. Hope these helps.... (Hitachi 42HDS69)

Hitachi UltraVision 42V710 - the blue power light keeps flashing, tv will turn on for a few seconds. I can hear what is on but the screen is black. After a few seconds, it starts to turn itself off and...

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Hitachi 55VG825 rear proj television blinking light and screen doesn't light up

Refer to owners manual ! Blinking indicates the type of fault that is occuring on all your tv sets. example : power light on red - indicator light beside it green but blinks rapidly for half a second rapidly then shuts off. This refers to a faulty lamp or a lamp that is near its expiration. Read your manuals if indicators refer to easy repair sweet, but if it says call tech then bummer...
