PS3 games arn't regon encoded, so you will be able to play most PAL PS3 games normally. The only problem you might have is when games have online regon locks (like Army of Two and Metal Gear Online).
PS2, PS1, some Blu Ray Movies and I think certain DVDs however are regon locked and you won't be able to play non-NTSC regon products on your console.
I have one in the uk, some blue ray discs are region encoded (some work some don't). Uk DVD's don't work and neither do old uk playstation 1 or 2 games. However all PS3 games are region free and work fine.

check the disk if it's original.If it's an original then check the disk if it is NTSC(USA) or PAL(UK) if your ps3 is a NTSC but you bought a PAL cd then have it exchange at the shop where you bought it.Hope's thi helps
This may be a problem with your ps3 as they are region free. mine is from china and plays all british games fine and blu ray movies email sony @ [email protected]
