SOURCE: Room AC, reverse cycle..heat does not work.
if it is a Heat pump style the rev valve is in the Freon lines you will have to pull the unit out into the room out of it's sleeve which will stay in the wall ....it rev the flow of refrigerant is it cooling ok?? there is a solenoid on that valve that may be bad i would check that first you will have to look to see if it is energized in the heat or cool mode first to make sure it is switching it should look like a sideways tube with 3 outlets on one side and 1 inlet on the top and the solenoid coil as well with 2 wires going to it let me know what you find out ...1 Note the unit may have electric heat and the element maybe out you will have to pull to check

Heat pumps have saftey circuits that prevent liquid flooding of the compressor. Inadequate airflow across the evaporator in cooling can trip this circuit. Have your package unit serviced with particular attention to cleaning the evaporator coil and be sure your filters are clean and changed frequently in the summer months. Hope this helps GL!

It is possible that it's the thermostat. When you turn it into cool mode, does the unit come on at all or is it silent? If nothing is coming on, then it's likely it's the tstat. Did the tech check the refrigerant charge while he was there? He should have checked it with the auxillary heat off and the unit just in heat mode. Make sure that the condenser unit outside is coming on when you are calling for cool, If you turn it on and everything comes on, go outside and put your hand on the large copper pipe coming into the unit. In cool mode, this pipe will be cold to the touch and in heat mode, the pipe will be warm to the touch. There isn't much you can do on your own with the exception of changing the tstat. If you can answer some of the questions I have posed, I can try and give you some more answers. Just remember that a check up doesn't mean its a guarantee that something won't happen the next day, it's just that everything was in working order at the time of the checkup.
