I have a Rebel T1i Canon camera. I try to take a picture and my camera doesn't take a picture. A screen comes up and says "Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts." I have cleaned the contacts and it still doesn't work. Can I fix the problem at home? Or do I need to send it in and get it fixed? Where would I send my camera to? How do I tell if its my lens or the camera?

reset camera by removing battery completely for about 10 seconds.
otherwise, time for service.
sounds like a processor board issue.
you can use a contact cleaner sparingly, available from frys electronics or any other electronic reseller like radio shack.
good luck

SOURCE: Canon Rebel T1i

I have the canon 70 -300 sitting right here beside me on my XTi, it also fits my XSi and all my EOS mount film bodies. one thing about canon EOS lenses and bodies: They fit and work together. Yes there are cheaper lenses, but I just answered another question on this website from somebody who has a 3rd party lens (and a high quality lens ta-boot) that will not work on his canon. This is typical of canon. They do not release all of their codes to 3rd party manufactures. Your friend just bought a premium camera, do not let him put a lesser lens on the camera, he will not be happy and the savings will not be that significant to make up the difference...

Maybe that's why it was for sale on Ebay.

Your problem is a simple one: technology doesn't stand still.

Your lens was designed to work with Canon technical protocols which existed seven years ago and things have advanced somewhat since then.

With some third party lenses it's possible to send the lens to the manufacturer's service agent and pay to have it serviced and updated, but this cannot be done with your lens.

You'll have to buy a more recent lens model if you want to use it on your Rebel T1i. Older Canon lenses should mostly still work (unless Canon clearly state otherwise) as Canon will have taken their design into account on later bodies, but Canon have no interest nor any reason to make their later bodies able to use older non-Canon products.

Sorry that this is not the answer you hoped for, but I hope that you have still found it to be of some use and that you take a moment to rate my reply.

SOURCE: I have a Canon EOS

Hi.

Problem is either the well known firmware bug, or a real problem in communication between lens and camera.

Do a firmware update ensuring that you read and follow all the indications in the page linked below. If you fail the firmware update the camera may not start anymore.

Here Canon firmwar update for EOS Rebel XS / 1000D

That will usually fix the problem, if it doesnt; check lens connector contacts and test using different lens.

Regards.

Ginko.

I have a canon rebel t1i and while in sports mode at night, it takes fuzzy pictures and nothing comes out clear?

You have to Manually Set/Override the ISO settings to a larger number like 1600 or higher this will let the camera take pictures at faster shutter speed to freeze the action, Try to use the camera in more manual modes, Tell the camera what do, old school photograpy.

My rebel t1i eos 500 built in flash won't pop up

Hi, I have to Canon Rebel t1i and I had the same problem (built in flash not working). I tried a number of remedies I found on forums etc but none worked. I then tried this. In the external flash housing is a metal sprung plate which surrounds the five circular pins (one big, four small at the rear). If you get a small straight headed screwdriver and lift the front of this plate and at the same time pull it back towards you it will come out altogether.
I then removed the four small screws being careful not to drop them and took off the mount for the external flash and then tried the flash it opened straight away. I then cleaned all the area of the mount and the two plates and replaced them all ensuring I fitted them exactly as before. I then checked the camera again and presto working fine. I hope this helps everyone with the problem.

My Canon EOS Rebel XS only takes pictures indoors (ERR. 01)

You didn't say which shooting mode you're using, but I'd bet you're in Manual mode and have dialed in a completely wrong aperture/shutter speed combination for bright lighting conditions. For example, 1/60th of a second and f2.8 in bright sunlight would be "burning out" your image, so the camera may be giving you an error message. Try using AUTO or PROG setting and see if the problem persists. If it does, try a different lens. You may have an incompatible mount, or one of the contacts may be damaged. If all else fails, try your lens on another Canon camera.

What does "BUSY" mean on my Canon Rebel T1i, while I'm trying to upload pictures onto my computer?

It means that the transfer is in process. It's letting you know that you shouldn't turn off your camera - it is busy!

Does the camera have an internal memory?

The 500D doesn't have any internal memory for picture taking. It won't store any pictures unless you insert an SD card in the slot just above the battery on the right side of the camera (when you are looking at the screen)

Trying to locate a manual for a canon eos 500d, it is not a new camera but one lent to me by the wifes friend to get me going

The EOS 500D is called the Rebel T1i in some parts of the world. You can download the T1i manual and more from the manufacturer's web site at

LCD Display. I got the Rebel T1i but the LCD screen won't view anythign unless I press the display button. How can I have the LCD screen on while I am taking picture? Please advise..thanks

The T1i does not have this feature, like most digital SLR cameras. You should just look through the viewfinder to take the photo, which gives you a much more precise view of the photo, where you can better assess the correctness of focus, etc.
This feature is called "Live View" and is available on some newer or higher end models.
