No battery status in the screen of Garmin 255. I just bought a new Garmin 255, before charging, it can not on, meaning, the battrey is empty, that is fine. Pluging the car charger, the unit can turn on, but no battery status.I just cahrged for 10 minutes as I have to switch the car key on to change, I will continue to charge tomorrow when driving. The problme is now, when charging and turning on, no battery status, when should this status show up, after full charging or should show now, or somthing wrong with this unit? Thanks.

You might as well go ahead and replace the GPS, the screen has failed most likely, a new cost less than repairing it.

Your question was posted under the Nuvi 680 GPS, so I am assuming this is the model that you have.

On the main screen, you will see a green battery status indicator in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The battery is divided into 4 parts. Each part represents 1/4 power. So if you have one green bar, that indicates that the battery has 1/4 of power left. If there are 3 bars, that indicates that there is 3/4 power left.

When the unit is charging, you will see a yellow lightning bolt appear over the green battery status icon.

When the lightning bolt is not there, this means the unit is running off of the battery.

When leaving the unit to charge, press and hold the power button until you see that the screen says Charging Battery. A few seconds later, the screen will go blank to save energy.

Pressing the screen again later will either say Charging Battery or Battery Charge Complete.

You can reset the unit with a paper clip. At the base of the unit there is a reset hold which will reset it to factory settings. You will lose your updates.

If the battery is in good condition, just a couple hours. Plug the charger into the unit and you should see a yellow lightning bolt over the battery status indicator. 4 green bars means the battery is charged. Anything less and it is not.

To leave the unit in charge, press the on/off power button until the screen says battery charging. You can check the charging status by just touching the screen. If it says battery charge complete, then you are done.

12V boat? Put a 12V battery in it instead of a 6V. should work.

i had same prob about a month ago it sorted it's self out after left on charge for a week

If your charging system is working, you can disconnect the battery while it's running, and it will stay running. The stator assembly (Like a car alternator) will supply the current to keep the bike running along with charging the battery. A multi-meter should show around 12.5 volts at the battery with the engine off, and just under 14 volts running, under normal working conditions.
