Acer 5742 cd rom is not openin. Please advise

GO TO HELP ON ACER WEBSITE GIVE MORE DETAILS BUD

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

OK when you boot up your computer does it says your DVD so so is working

if is not back up your drive in the BIOS or get a soft ware call or download from CNET call covert dvd and musics.....

Then you could try this method without using the disks
Click Start" menu

Click Programs

Click Acer Recovery Management

Click the Restore button on the bottom of the dialog box that opens

Click Restore System to Factory Default

Click Yes in the warning dialog box which asks if you wish to continue the recovery process

Click yes Start to restore the computer to the default factory settings

Sometimes there is a default acer password which is quite often 000000 that is 6 zero's

or place the recovery disk into your cd

restart the laptop pressing F12 i believe

then follow on screen instructions

Download and install Nero Burning Rom program, open it, set in the up window the option CD/DVD, get to preferite, copy CD or copy DVD option, depends by what you need, set the speed 4x for DVD or 8x for CD for have a good copy quality, insert the original disk, it will copy it, then insert the new disk to burn.

Plug it into the usb port then put the cd that you got with it if you got one with it into the dvd/cd slide it will have a menu so click on install. So you have to install the webcam.

AS you bought it yesterday, I wouldn't mess with it. Take it back and accept it again when the sales person demonstrates it working or demand a replacement.

If this is the DVD drive that was originally installed in this machine you should be able to go into device manager and update the drivers for the dvd-rom. The drivers should be located the driver cd's that came with the laptop.
