This is dangerous.
You should be able to stop it by unplugging the stove. The automatic spark requires electricity to work.
Unplug it and leave a comment with the make and model and I will assist you in finding a replacement.
Ive already tried to find the plug...unfortunately it is just a stove top with cupboards underneath, sink to one side, and more cupboards on the other so cant find it. will keep trying!
The stove is called: Hotpoint BG25. Made in Great Britain.
Sparking sound persists after burner is turned off:
Remove knob by pulling it straight off the stem and check the bottom of the knob for any buildup of soil.
Electrodes:
After cleaning, with a dry paper towel or scrub pad, make sure the notch in the burner head is positioned toward the electrode.
Look underneath the stove top and you should see the electrical wire running into an outlet or through a hole in the cupboard to the outlet.
If the above does not stop the sparking I believe I have found the part you may need to replace.
Copy and paste the link here:http://www.espares.co.uk/part/cookers-an...
See if this matches your part.
I hope it is just a bit of grease in your electrode that can be found by removing your burner cap and burner head. I could not find your specific manual but found a similar one. You can find it here:http://products.geappliances.com/Marketi...
How to find the electrode is on page 11.
I will not rest until your problem is resolved.
Found better suited model so you can see where your electrode is located.http://imagebank.indesitcompany.co.uk/br...
