Tiller will not engage tines

Is this a two speed or a 4 speed ... it is a MTD built Troy or a Troy built Troy or do you know?

There were two versions of Horse built in Troy, New York bu Gardenway ... the two speed and the 4 speed. The two speed used two belts the same size while the 4 speed used one belt on different sized pulleys. There was also a variation that used a slip gear ... this model was built to accomodate other accesories ... log splitter and generator.

If yours is a Troy Built from Garden Way, I can help you. If this one is from MTD, I'm not so sure. Can you ID your machine for me please?

Old Troy Built with model #HH60-105106F. What is

That's the engine number. It's a 6Hp Tecumseh. Go on ebay and buy the Troy Bilt parts manuals on CD for Horse Roto Tillers (if that's what it's on). I paid $8. Definitely worth it.

Grinding when Engaing PTO for the tiller-Troy Built Horse 8hp

It's likely that your clutch needs adjustment. To adjust, you just need to loosen the two screws on the plate and slide it a bit so the clutch better engages the rear dog clutch. Have you ever taken the tiller portion off the transmission to grease the clutch? If not, before adjusting it you might want to do that. It could be that the clutch isn't sliding back far enough to engage the rear end and a little grease is all it needs. This service requirement is explained in the owners manual for the tiller. One last point, the tiller must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch. From your note, it sounded like you were engaging the clutch with the forward/reverse lever in the forward position. The lever must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch.

I have a Troy-Bilt PTO Horse (Horse III) 8HP TINES

The tines are very close to the housing and sometimes you do get rocks hitting,as for the dirt it should have side panels to keep the dirt in place.

Troy bilt horse pto clutch will not disengage

The problem is lack of lubrication in the pto coupling. Losen the two swing bolts carefuly, block the front under the motor. Separate the tine transmision from the housing and grease both sides with as much grease as you can work in. Work the lever as you do this. Should fix the problem.
