It powers on and I can hear it reading the disc.I have tried 4 different sets of AV cables that all work and still nothing.
So how do you fix this problem?
Look my friend the problem of your ps2 is something relationship with the bios, the bios is the program that run at start of your console (without the disc, the navigator menu) this problem is caused because tried to modify your console with some modchip and they do it wrong. Unfortunately your console can't be fixed for you, it has to be some expert in the area (not the guy who try to modify your ps2 of course) in the ps2slim is easy to reapir this things but in ps2 fat is no way back. BLACK SCREEN MEANS DEATH IN SONY CONSOLES, but your console can be fix. I'm from Guatemala.

your ps2 don't read copies? only read dvd originals?
but the black screen is caused by some modchip, anything else
is unknown by me but if it reads copies i will do it a tutorial
to fix it yourself.

The way to fix this problem is to hold down the power button until the reset menu comes up and then select restore default settings , you will lose everything and be left with a working ps3

To my knowledge this was an in store demo.So no modding went on.
Also I am still waiting for an answer on how to fix it.I want to fix it myself not send it off for repair.
So if someone could point me in the direction of a guide or something similar to fix this that would be helpful.

The best help I found was on my own and that it is most likely one of the fuses are blown.

Im no moder or anything my PS@ was clean never opened never instaled wierd programs or boot disk and it still died! for no reason at all i contacted sony about this and all they said is *we will fix it for you for 80$ plus shipping*.....**** that the freaking thing is 120$ WTF is up whit that.
I tryed everywere to get a fix for it or explination but all you *helpers* say is the same ******** *you moded now your fucked, ******** ******** lets it die no way im paying 80$ to fix it
im having the same proplem only i can play for a wile that it go's black. it's fat and NOT modded but thay keep saying it's modded! yes idoits sony modded my ps2 before i got it new and in the box from the store! and im not willing to contact sony for repars.
