Samsung LN46A550 LCD TV Logo

When I turn on the set, the right half of the screen is distorted. It flickers, different colors move from center to far right of screen, double images that appear as negitives and sometimes that half of the screen is very dark. Sometimes it will clear up for a second or two then go back to the problem. When the problem first started, it only lasted for approx 10-15 minutes then the picture was great. Now it takes 1-2 hours for it to clear up. Once it clears, I get a great picture. The left side of the picture seems fine from the time I turn the set on.

Hi,
Symptom shows problem with lcd panel (screen) however, t-con board that is part of lcd panel could be defective and cause of these symptoms.
T-Con board is located at top center of cld panel at rear and would be covered with metal shield. There are three type of t-con board utilized according to lcd panel and are available in shopjimmy.com
Please check what t- con board is similar with your tv board to order it. If you are not handy with electronics stuff repair then local tv repairman will help you to replace t-con board that might solve your tv picture problem.

Will you please let us know if you did in fact replace the t-con board and if that did the trick? Thanks. Having something similar with my tv but not quite the same.

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2011

Yes, some times T-Con board replacement solved problem and it was already explained that it is problem of lcd panel but t-con board replacement might solve this issue.
    Thanks.

I have some of the same problems with my samsung TV so I replaced the t-con board and didn't solve the problem.

  • csugerm Mar 06, 2011

Did you discover what your issue was as my lnt4671f is doing the exact same thing? I would make sense to me that it seems like a cap issue on the power supply board as the picture on my set goes perfect after about 10-20 minutes also, maybe this is the amount of time it takes the caps to fully charge to appropriate operating voltage level??? Power on again within hour (and sometimes longer) of shut off has no issue, I would assume, not enough time for caps to discharge???

Cracked Iphone 4 screen with distorted messed up colors.

Hi Connor,
Since the iphone is dropped from 4 feet, there would have been a physical damage to the display. If the phone is still under warranty or Apple care protection, you could take the iphone to Verizon store and replace the internal display. If the iphone is out of warranty, they might charge you for replacing the display for the phone. :-)

Mitsubishi VS-55609 distorted Picture Flickers

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

PICTURE HAS DISTORTED HORIZONTAL LINE IN CENTER OF SCREEN.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

PHILIPS 60PW936317 - COLORS GOT DISTORTED AS I WAS WATCHING TV

Your convergence chips and convergence resistors are going bad. When they fail the screen colors will look distorted/3d looking.  Another symptom is one or more colors can't be converged using the convergence menu. You can purchase the parts over the internet. Just make sure you get Sanyo brand convergence chips and the correct flame proof resistors. You can also check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They are working on a complete kit for this model.

Color distortion

Move any speakers or electrical devices away from the set. It could also be anything electronic or magnetic. Anything near the set that generates a magnetic or electromagnetic field could be causing the distortion.
