My refrigerator isn't cooling well. The freezer isn't freezing at the top only the bottom.

if it's just cold at the bottom and warm up top it sounds like you have a bad evaporator fan motor in the freezer side, when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?if not bad fan motor, this happens when the fan motor is bad because heat rises and cold air sinks.part number : 2259385 and it's around 60 to 70 dollars

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

Freezer works but refirgerator is not cold

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?if not you have a bad evap fan motor,if the fan is blowing put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if you feel like snow on the back inside wall you have a defrost problem and have to find what part is bad with a meter, bad defrost thermostat, heater or board or timer, send model number next time, ice builds up on the coil and air can't blow into fridge from freezer, could have a bad damper, also if the freezer is on top you could have a blocked drain in the freezer, the air vents freeze up and the fan can't blow air from freezer into fridge because the air ducts are frooze up,all it does is the freezer gets cold, the evaporator fan blows cold air from freezer into fridge section,so either the fan motor is bad,the fan blade is damaged or something is blocking the air like a bad damper or air ducts are frozen up,send the model number and let me know what you find,do you hear the fan,any ice on back freezer wall or anything else you see and i'll try to help you out.

Whirlpool freezer won't freeze

you need to send the model number so i can see what fridge you have,is it a side by side freezer on top or bottom.check the back inside wall of the freezer to see if any ice or like snow is on the back inside wall of the freezer,if so you have a defrost problem,if it's a top freezer is there any water leaking into the fridge section, check under the crisper draws,if water is there you could have a blocked drain in the freezer, the water that's from the defrost mode leaks into the air ducts and freezes,or you could have a freon leak in the sealed system, remove the inside back wall of the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evap coil,if there's frost just on the top of the coil and nowhere else on the coil you have a freon leak, one more thing you could have a bad evap fan motor, open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing around, open the freezer door and push and hold the door or light switch in for a minute and then let it out,if the fan doesn't run it could be bad.the last thing is the compressor isn't running and you're hearing the condenser fan running and not the compressor, the start device on the compressor could be bad, feel the compressor,is it hot and feel it to make sure it's running.so bad start device, freon leak, defrost problem or bad evap fan motor or condenser motor.if you get back to me and let me know what you find and send the model number i can help you better.

GE top freezer refrigerator fan rattles constantly

It is mounted properly, it is probably a bad bearing in the fan motor and/or the blade is loose on the shaft. Replace the motor.
Good Luck,

Kenmore top freezer leaking water on the inside when defrosting

MAKE SURE THE FAN IN REAR OF FREEZER COMPARTMENT IS RUNNING , SOME TIME YOU MUST DEPRESS THE DOOR SWITCH ON THE FREEZER DOOR TO WATCH FAN IF NOT REPLACE FAN , NOT BAD MOST UNPLUG , IF THIS IS NOT IT YOU COULD HAVE A INTERMITTENT DEFROST TIMER OR A BAD DEFROST HEATER

Freezer running at 0 to 10 below but fridg wont go below 42. Cold control tested good. Cleaned bottom was really dirty brushed an vacumed no improvement. Air flow from vent in rear of refrigator...

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • the fan could also be the problem, and like you said a visual inspection of the fan should clarify that. sometimes the plastic fan blade gets loose on the metal shaft of the fan motor and it will not turn very fast.

  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
