Black & Decker Toaster, model 3550: Pressing the handle down to lower the bread and start the toasting doesn't lock in place anymore. The toaster will toast, but you have to hold the handle down so that the bread is in the right place. Is this easily repairable? Is it worth repaiing?

The fact that pressing down the lever fails, means the toaster contact will not function and can not be repaired. Since a two slice toaster is only $15 at Target, why bother fixing a toaster?

Main problem with these is crumbs, they get stuck between the 2 surfaces of the small electromagnet that keeps the lever down, consequently it does not stick anymore, try drop kicking it in the drection of the garbage can, this sort fright may just scare it into working again.

SOURCE: Black and /decker toaster model T3550. The outside elements work but the middle ones do not. so only one side of the bread is toaster. And the handle must be held down the whole time to toast

The heating element wire is really thin and there is a great posssibilty of breakage. There is also a spring switch in which the lever locks when toasting. needs replacement.

SOURCE: Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

GE toaster model 169100. : the lever to toast won't stay down. I researched removing the base to clean the magnets, but not regular Phillips screws. Suggestions??

I have the same GE toaster and now my lever won\'t lock in place when I push it down to cook my toast. The handle does not pull off and when you turn the toaster over there are no screws to take the toaster apart. So I guess I have to say this is a disposable toaster but I am extremely bummed because it is beautiful and match decor and microwave that has the same color scheme as my toaster.

I wish companies would stop making cheap junk that doesn\'t last more then a few years.

I recieved a B&D 4 slice toaster in November 2010. chrome and Black. Toasting bread is a 20 minute ordeal. I DOES NOT TOAST. Set at the highest setting, I like my toast very brown, and even if you...

If it doesn't work like it should, by all means - return it for a replacement or refund. With that said, I have another possibility.

As an electrician, I have seen pretty strange things that seemingly defy explanation. There may be an issue with the outlet or circuit(s) in the kitchen where this toaster is being used. Try plugging this toaster in a plug in a different room of the house. Do not try it in the kitchen, but in the dining room, basement - or some other room instead. If it works as expected, there's an issue with the plug / circuit that you are using. You ought to have that checked out sooner rather than later.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply - thanks!

When i push down the lever it doesn't stay down

remove the housing & you will probably notice the 2 ceramic pieces are burned out. (They maybe plastic) But these are the 2 pieces and the 2 long metal contact points that come together when the lever is pushed down. The 2 metal contact strips come together & make the eletronic connection to start the heating process. let me know if you find the parts.

My toaster does not lock in for toasting

Most small appliance are not worth fixing. If the mechanism that locks the bread handler is defective, I'd just buy a new toaster.
