Dear Sir/Madam, My desktop Acer Aspire M1641 Windows Vista home premium, refuses to start up. The computer started to malfunction at intervals but given time rectified itself, however, now it has completely gone dead. Hoping to hear from you soon, Kind regards, Elizabeth Rijken

Unplug the power cord then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Plug the power cord back in and press the power button. Did you see any lights or hear any fans? If not, the power supply is probably bad.

HI,
SOME PLUG AND PLAY DEVICES ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VISTA EVEN SOMETIMES IT SAY'S THEY ARE CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER FOR AND POSSIBLE DRIVERS THAT WILL WORK WITH VISTA.

Actually WinXP SP3 should help your problem but if that don´t work than maybe you can try to install XPSP3 in another computer and try to install into your Acer Aspire*

Back up all of your personal data and files. Store your backup on external media, such as an external hard drive, USB flash drive or CD/DVD.
  • Step 2 Insert your Windows Vista installation disk.
  • Step 3 Restart the computer.
  • Step 4 Re-configure your BIOS to boot from CD first if Windows Vista boots normally after inserting the installation disk and restarting. Find these settings in your BIOS "Boot" options.
  • Step 5 Press any key to enter the Windows Vista setup.
  • Step 6 Enter the license key, select your activation preferences and agree to the license agreement. Press "Next" after entering a value for each item.
  • Step 7 Choose a "Custom" installation.
  • Step 8 Click on your primary partition. This should be your "C:\" drive on Disk 0. Click "Next."

    Your operating system is corupted. you need to install a new one.
    Your computer has the right specifications for vista though i would recommend Windows 7.

    Yes, you will need to reinstall the drivers for individual hardware.

    Go to http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/

    Click on Desktop>Aspire>M1641 and the available downloads will be listed.

    These drivers wil be downloaded in .zip format. They will have to be extracted to their full size after downloading. If you are not familiar with doing so, just Comment back and we will try to guide you.

    do not downgrade, if you don't have WIndows XP software.
    you can not dowgrade Vista to Windows XP.
    copy all the data from your computer and store it on a DVD or CD.
    inssert the WIndows XP, reformat and install, (just following the instruction on screen).
    you can upgrade from WIndows XP to Vista, not the other way around.

    Downgrade Acer M1641 from Vista home premium to Windows XP
    Its a driver incompatibility issue. Many hardware components designed for Vista are incompatible with XP. This means that the Realtek audio driver may be the Vista version. Also, some hardware has of yet no XP drivers, so your audio components were designed for Vista only.
    While it may be possible to "force" the driver to work, it may involve a number of hacks to the Windows registry and other files.

    what is the error message that you're getting.. usually windows vista will not downgrade your operating system to windows xp. You may need to remove vista before you can load xp.
    make sure to save a back up of all of your important files before you do that.
