I have a Yahama HTR-5990. I did something to the settings and now I can't enable the Surround Left/Right speakers. The Auto Setup says I have 3.1 setup but it is wired for 5.1. It used to work and the hardware hasn't changed. I was messing with the zones and I can't get it working again.

SOURCE: Zone 2

The above suggestion may be the cause of the problem. Zone 2 can only play analog, so if you have HDMI connection you cannot output to zone 2.

I resolved my own problem. This is a 7 channel system. Zone 2 needs 2 channels. In my case I bi-amped both front speakers (ran two speaker cables to each). So Zone 1 was using 7 channels, 5 speakers plus 2 added cables for fronts. Zone 2 could not work.

In set up 2 Speaker Settings, select first menu item then scroll to second option on this, change setting from bi-amp to Normal.

SOURCE: yamaha htr-5990 Reciever powers on

Hi larryavent

The unit is going into protection mode. Check you speaker cabling and connections for short circuits and frayed ends. Best way to test for speaker or related problems is to disconnect the speaker wiring from the amp and try again. If it still has the symptoms with no cables connected then it will have an internal fault. Unless you have experience with this type of gear, there is not much that is user serviceable inside. A trip to a Yamaha Service center may be in order.

Graeme

SOURCE: Zone 2

restore the receivers to factory settings by pressing and holding the dvr/vcr button then press the stand by button. this would erase all assignments made so you would need to redo the assignments of your sources to the receiver, then activate zone 2 by going in to the hardware setup(7.2)

Hi- I have a Yamaha htr 5990, I am trying to set up a 2nd set of speakers to run off zone 2 or 3 that will power speakers at the patio; but I cannot figure out how to get it to run. Any suggestions as...

to set up a zone 2 or zone 3 set up you need the yahama amps that receive the signal from the main amp, and from that zones amp, you can control that zone, If you check out page 102 of the manual, you will see where it shows these external amps that control that 2 nd and 3rd zone However, if you look at page 85 of the manual, you can just run the speakers off the main, and select B on the speaker selection, leaving main and B on will have sound coming from all the speakers, turn off whichever you want to cancel the sound in either room

Audio keeps cutting out intermitenly on my Yamaha htr-5990 this will happen no matter what input is being used

Is it going into protect mode???
If so, check your speaker connections. Make sure there are no loose copper wires hanging out, and that your splices are clean at both the receiver and the speaker.
