My nintendo wii freezes up on certain games and its not the games that don't work because i have bought multiple copies of these games and they still didn't work. It usually freezes up while loading during a game Our Wii is two weeks old, freezes whenever my son tries to play Fifa 08. All other games work fine. The Fifa 08 disc is new- bought today! He tried his friend's fifa 08 disc, it froze in exactly the same place, but works fine in friend's console. Tried ringing helpline, no answer.

This can be a firmware problem , did you check the firmware of your friends WII, so make sure that you have the same firmware if not update your WII's firmware...

Hope that helps........

  • Anonymous Jun 30, 2008

This generally happens because there is a flash RAM in some models and the update is not applied properly.

The immediate thing we can do in this kind of problem is that just shut down the system, wait for 20 seconds and reboot it. This should resolve the issue if your system has an interim issue.
If you still continue to have the problem we need to reformat it. As per the research regarding wii freezing, majority of the issues get resolved when we reformat it.
Well if you still have the problem again call up the customer support and get your system replaced.

Two possible problems: Disk scratched or overheating. The one major flaw in the wii is the standby mode, if you keep it like that for a while (a day to a week, whatever) it overheats because there is no fan for it on standby. Try unplug it and it may be fine.

There are many reports about similar issues. Most of the time overheating is the issue especially during high level of processor run. You may unplug the unit and replug after 30 minutes or more. There are actually many ways to resolve the issue. However I am concern that some solution methods might void the warranty. Try using after cool down the unit. If issue persist You can take it directly to the reseller as you can request exchange or firmware update.

Also make sure your clear data is not on easy mode.Next make sure there is no other data on
easy mode, after you check that and delete all easy mode files on the
mem card it should work =)

This is what Nintendo suggests on troubleshooting this problem.Make sure you also click on the blue links for more info.

Games FreezeOccasional lockups with video games can happen from time-to-time
and do not necessarily indicate a need for repair or replacement.
If you are experiencing frequent lockups, or a particular
game always locks up in the same area, please see the information
    below.

Make sure you are using only licensed accessories. Unlicensed products
and accessories do not undergo Nintendo's testing and evaluation
process. They may not work at all with our game systems, and
they may have compatibility problems with certain games or
        accessories.

If a game freezes while playing, usually the power, reset,
and eject buttons will not respond. Try unplugging
the AC Adapter from the back of the console, then check the
air vents to make sure they're not being blocked.
If the information listed above did not help, please select
from the links below so that we may help narrow the problem.
How many games are regularly "freezing"?

I bought drums at a garage sale. I thought they were for Rockband Wii. I bought Rockband 1 for Wii, but I can't get the drums to sync. The screen keeps indicating it can't detect a microphone,...

If the buttons that you have are 1, 2, A, B, then you have the Rockband drums for Wii (the ones for Xbox have X, Y, A, B). You don't need a microphone to play Rockband, you just need to have a Wii remote on when you start the game. That should get rid of the pesky "Can't Detect Microphone" message and let you get to the main game screen to play the rest of the game. Have fun!

Error message- game disk could not be read (all games)

First check to make sure that you don't have multiple discs in the Wii. If that's not it than your Wii is defective and could possibly have a bad drive.

I am in my second season in the my player mode on the Wii and the game freezes at the same point after the post game interviews. If I try to save the game before it gets to this point, the screen says that...

You may need a new copy of the game, or get your wii checked, call Nintendo about it, or e-mail them, the disk may also be scratched up. This used to happen to me a few months ago, the disk drive got overheated, maybe that's your problem, but if it doesn't happen to other games, than it's that one copy, or the game (including other copies) might not work. tried to get it repaired.

Will not read copied disc

Hello buckland208 and welcome to FixYa. The Nintendo Wii will not read copied discs at all. Nintendo uses a proprietary optical disc which can not be bought blank for consumer use. There are mods available that will let you play copied games but that would be considered piracy and could result in lawful prosecution against you or your Wii being what is known as (Bricked). I would not advise you to do either as you don't want your console damaged or law enforcement pursuing you. I hope you found this helpful buckland208 and stay safe. Thank you for using FixYa.

Game freezes up in the 4th quarter.

I used to have this problem on the game 'HEATSEEKER'
I simply bought a new copy of the game at the store and, it has been fine ever since.
If that does not work go to your local wii stockist and ask for expert opinion there.
