Nikon COOLPIX P60 Digital Camera Logo
Posted on Dec 12, 2010

My Nikon P60 won't download pictures. It transfered the first 5 pictures in memory and then stalled. Error message says it can't copy the next picture and it won't copy subsequent pics either. The only thing different is the voice recording icon shows on the on camera screen when I view them. I tried to delete any voice files attached to the pics but the camera says no voice files exist. Any idea why these won't download?

Try downloading from the memory card. You will have to purchase a card reader, usually less than $20. It will save the batteries, too, since the reader is powered by the computer.
Make sure the batteries have a good charge. The camera powers the download not the pc.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

1) There's a "Copy" entry in the playback menu that will let you copy pictures between the internal memory and the memory card. Display the playback menu by pressing Playback (the right-pointing triangle) and then MENU. In my copy of the manual, it's on page 94.
