Repair for "unable to read disk" error

Hi!
After a huge financial splurge enlarging my wii system I found that I am supposed to send my console out for repair which will take much too long to get back. The guys at the game store said it's a pretty quick fix and it's the shipping time alone causing the delay. Since my spouse is a hardware guy I am sure that he could handle a repair like this, unless I need have new components added. Before I urge him to tackle such a repair himself, I was looking for info on what I would be getting him into! Thank you for any guidance you can offer! Please advise!
Regards,
Crystal

If Wii gives unreadable disc, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. My WII will not read any disk and we do not have a menu. All it will say is unable to read disk.

Unable to Read the Disc / Disc Could Not Be Read Situation:
  • System displays either error message "Unable to read disc" or "Disc could not be read"

What to do:
  • This message may display if the disc is ejected during play. Return to the HOME Menu before changing discs.

  • If the Wii console is laying flat, verify that the system is not placed upside-down. The game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.

  • Verify that the disc is being inserted properly.
    • If the console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right. Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically (learn more)

    • If the console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards.

  • If the problem occurs with only one game disc, there may be a problem specific to that game. Click here to check our list of specific game issues.

Situation Not Resolved:
  • If only one Game Disc displays this error message, it will need to be replaced. Click here for Game Disc replacement options

  • If the error is occurring with most or all Game Discs or all of one type of game, then this indicates a problem with the system. The console and one or two example discs will need to be sent in for repair. Click here to begin the repair process.

When i put a disk in it says "unable to read disc"

Hi there

From what you have said it sounds like you have the DISK READ ERROR

The main cause is Hardware failure due to overheating or just simple wear & tear.

You will need to perform simple maintenance to your console

You can send your Wii to Nintendo to fix this. If your in warranty its free. If not the repair cost would be $150 and a wait time of 4-6 weeks

The other solution is what I did and the way more and more gamers are turning nowadays is a Good Wii Repair Guide that shows you how to fix the problem yourself. I have never had a problem with this one so far for over a year, well worth it. Its my most recommended guide online.

Well this is all the help and advice I have on this so good luck.

You can get back to gaming

Please come back and rate my post if you find it useful

Many thanks

Wont read disks says unable read disks check wii manual options for troubleshooting how do i fix this is there a place in irelend for repairs?????

Hello there

From what you have said it sounds like you have the DISK DRIVE READ ERROR

The main causes are Hardware failure, overheating or wear & tear.

You may need to perform simple maintenance, clean or in some cases adjust settings.

To get the best advice on where to start I recommend a Wii Repair Guide , From this you can fix the problem at home and avoid any large repair bills. Its easier than it sounds when you have help from the guide.

The other solution would be to send the console off to Nintendo, This is free if your still in warranty. If your console is out of warranty then the usual price of repair is $90

Glad I could Help!

Good Luck & Best Regards

Unable to read discs wii

Hello,

This is caused by your Nintendo Wii laser. There are 2 things you can do.

1.) Open your system and clean the laser with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip
2.) Send it in for repair

Note: I suggest cleaning out the system and laser before sending in for repair. While it may not be a longterm fix, it is a short-term fix ;)

Wii Problems

I called Nintendo. Our Wii was unable to be fixed by troubleshooting by phone. I'm having to send it back to them to repair or replace. They really were helpful and facilitated everything for me. My Wii was bought in 2006 and had no more warranty on it, however, they charged me $75 + $7.50 in shipping to send it back to them. If it can be repaired, they'll send it back to me fixed, however, if not, they'll send me a new one at no extra charge.

There is something wrong with your laser. You should be covered under warranty, send it in for exchange or repair. Here is the Nintendo Repair Center Help Line: 1-800-255-3700
