I have used a 8 qt. pressure canner (which holds 4 qt) and have done beans and venison. It also holds quarts. I also use an 8 qt. faberware kettle that holds 5 or 6 pint jars with a metal spacer from my pressure canner on the bottom. No problems for 10 years......except my self cleaning oven doesn't work but I don't think that has any thing to do with the canning on top. The bottom of the kettle has to be SMOOTH and FLAT so a regular canner (blue, ribbed bottom) won't work. Burner will come on and off.
It will damage the top. It is too heavy and much larger than the burner. You risk serious damage to the glass top. If you crack it you can't safely use it anymore and a replacement top can cost over $500
