Picture died, no display only sound

The TV died 18 months after purchase. I did not buy extended warranty. The technician tried swapping the motherboard but that did not fix the problem. Now the tech believes the LCD itself could be the issue. Does anyone have any advice here

I have the same problem as discribed by kashmiri2. I contacted Samsung and they will do nothing to stand behind their defective product because it is 6 months out of warranty. $2,600 is what I paid. Don't buy Samsung products.

Do this test and it should tell if the lcd panel is bad or not, turn the tv on and touch the screen in the center, push with your finger firmly but not to hard, if you have a backlight or light shows up around your finger then it is probably the T-con board/panel, the T-con board is attached to the lcd panel and is less expensive to replace, if you do not have any light then it's probaly the power supply

Could you tell me why the picture keeps going off but the sound stays on but when i switch the tv off then back on via the mains or the remote, the picture comes back on for a few minutes before going off...

FIRST question to be asked is where did you purchase your set? If it was Sams or Cosco. You might be able to take it back under warranty!! And get another tv. Also, did you purchase an extended warranty? Maybe check into that second. If neither of those avenues work, the most likely suspected problem area is the power supply. KDL-40XBR5 has vertical color lines no picture .After 50 minutes picture shows back with right side darker. TV was purchase 2008

It sounds like you might have a defective LCD panel. Your warranty for your TV is 18 months. Some of these models the warranty was mis-printed and said only 12 months.

I heard a pop sound from the back of the tv and then no picture but still had sound

You know this is pretty damn strange everyone is having this problem with this Plasma TV right around the same time... When I purchased mine it stated that it had 20,000 hours of life to it... Also, I purchased the extended warranty plan for and the company that supplied the warranty went out of business so now, I have a bad TV and was screwed out of more money buying the extended warranty

MUST READ THIS I have a rca 61" hdtv purchased in 2004 with a 5 year extended warranty (thankfully) and have had nothing but problems with it. it is the worst thing i have ever bought.exactly 13 months...

All DLP TVS are lemons really.Most the Convergence ICS,they use on the board held the picture together will alway die about 1 year or 1 1/2 year all way need it replace.The bulb have life spans but never reaches alway dies before than.

The Service Plan from Walmart is an "extended plan" on top of the manufacture warranty. Your Tv is still under warranty from the manufacture.

Check the capacitors on the power board, I'm sure you can find several bad ones..search some youtube vids on how to do this if you don't know how

Cost to repair by a technician I'd say 100 bucks
