TV Screen is Black and White when using Wii

I bought a Wii from Switzerland and when I hooked it up to a Philips TV (fairly new) that I bought in Asia the picture screen is in black and white. I've seen several postings on this site on this same issue, is there a known solution to this?

Thanks,

Joe

No, there is no power difference between the two places.

Nintendo say that black & White screen is often because you need to replace the standard 3 pin lead with a 5 pin component lead for HDTVs. Have you tried this?

Wii in black and white

Picture Is Black and White or Does Not Appear Situation:
  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television

What to do:
  • Determine whether the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) are being used.

  • AV Cables

    • Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

    • If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV hookup steps. (How To)

  • Component Cables

    • Ensure the red, blue and green video cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

Still Not Resolved:
  • If the television is continues to show a black and white image when powering on the Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

Moved to korea from aus now black and white fuzzy wii

different voltage/wattage in Asia compared to Australia? I think there is a different power usage where you are now. Maybe also a different Hertz for the tv you are trying to use.

I previously had my wii on an older tv and it worked fine. I recently purchased a new tv (Sharp Quatron Aquos) and when I hooked up my wii and same cables to the tv, my screen is now a hazy black and white...

You are using composite cables(red, white, yellow) mine did the same thing. The aquos is all digital, wont read analog, which is what composite cables are.
They now make a component cable for the wii. I paid $28 at b.b.

I have hooked my wii up to a new samsung 42"

Make sure that you have switched the Wii to component video in the system setting menus. Once you have done that, you should have a color picture in 480p! Hope this helps!

I plugged our wii into new tv. the screen shows a black and white picture. how do i fix it?

What to do will depend on how you're connecting your Wii console to your TV.

    • With the yellow, white, and red AV cables that came with your system:

      • Did you have to use the red/green/blue inputs on your TV because it doesn't have the standard (yellow) AV inputs... if this is your first time hooking up the Wii console or have you moved it to another TV, . Our experience shows that many times this issue can be solved by double-checking your connection and finding the correct Input Select for your TV or VCR.

    • With the blue, green, white, and red component cables (sold separately):

      • Review our step-by-step Wii Component Cable to make sure the cables are properly inserted and that your TV is set to the proper input.

If you have verified the connection is correct, and are still receiving a blank or black and white screen when powering on your Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700

Just brought a flat screen tv and put the wii on its gone on to black and white whats the problem?

Try the different inputs on your TV to see if its black and white on all of them. If thats the case then try another TV, if its still black and white then its a problem with the Wii. If it works well on another TV then you know the original TV is the problem.

TV went to black and white when hooking up the wii

You probably don't have something hooked up right or connected all the way. If you are using component video cables, make sure that all of the different plugs are plugged into the matching socket on your TV. Also, make sure you have your TV on the right channel (3 or 4) if that's how you have it setup.
Otherwise, you will want to look at the input settings on your TV and make sure you are receiving the correct input, and if you have your Wii plugged into a VCR instead of directly to your TV, try hooking it up directly to see if it works.
If that doesn't work, try using a different TV - especially if it's a TV you know works in color with a Wii. If it is still in black and white, you might need to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.

Plug in the wii system and everything comes in black and white

Try plugging it into another scart socket, this sometimes happens when a tv does not support 60hz. the result is a screen that has no colour. You could try just plugging it onto the seperate av inputs. Most tv's these days have one scart that will work ok and in colour.

Screen losing color.. turning black and white

Your TV goes black & white, because your Wii could be NTSC or PAL which. If your Wii is PAL and your TV is NTSC then the TV will show a blac and white color. Since NTSC is for North America and PAL for Asia
