SOURCE: Toshiba satellite laptop keeps restarting

Is the fan working? It might be overheating.
Or one of the drivers is corrupt, and crashing the computer. The only way to solve that is by remotely (by means of starting from CD with a mobile OS).

SOURCE: how to install win xp in toshiba portage r200 laptop

This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.

SOURCE: Black screen w/blinking cursor

So.. you can select safe mode? Or you turn it on and it is resuming into the blank screen?

If the latter. Unplug the power, pull the battery out for 20 seconds or so. Then put it all back together and try booting up.

SOURCE: blinking white dash during boot.

Something has messed with your MBR, master boot record, which is a small sector at the beginning of your first hard drive which tells the bios which partition to boot. You'll have to use your xp or vista's installation disc to repair the system.( Choose; repair this installation of windows when prompted )
While you are in the bios check under the boot section the order of your boot devices. If you have more than 1 HD check that the one containing your OS is first.

I have a Toshiba laptop with a Windows 7 operating system AND A BLACK SCREEN WITH AN ARROW(curser) ON IT

Try running the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Laptop won't reboot

are you trying to put win 10 on as it can do this some time, can take upto 10 15 min to load, when the like is flashing its dos, when the screen is black its windows it takes some time for windows to find a driver and load it so the screen comes up. i've had this on a200's before. if you keep rebooting you will need to wipe the hard drive and start again. this also does this on win 7 and 8. win xp it does not do this as its full dos setup .

Laptop Screen goes blank

Are you running on battery or AC? Try using the power cord, remove the battery and see if it continues. I have seen a battery that is on its last legs do some weird things to a computer. Also, check your power management setting. Control panel, power, and set the computer to "always on" just to see if it could be a power management setting. If none of this works, i would back up all your files, and try to reload win xp from scratch.

Display has gone bad with fine vertical pink lines

Connect an external monitor to your laptop, if you get a clear image on this monitor the the video card in the laptop is OK.

The fault could be a defective inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or a faulty CCFL lamp. Most likely a faulty CCFL lamp.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) as reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Toshiba a75 s-206 problems helppppppppppppppp

Sounds like a bad hard drive to me. Take out the hard drive completely from the laptop and boot up with the windows xp cd and it should go past the blinking cursor. At that point you know you'll need another hard drive.

My Toshiba Satellite A215-S7413 laptop randomly goes to a blue screen with lots of white writing on it. I never have time to read it because it goes away so quickly. After the screen goes away it restarts...

Try going to Start - Run.
Type sfc /scannow in the run line and hit enter or click ok.
A dialog will pop up that says "Windows File Protection"
Allow this to run and insert the Win XP CD if requested.
Hopefully this will resolve your issue!
