I just need to know how to initialize a picture card for my Fuji FinePix S9000 camera. I downloaded my pictures onto my computer and when I put the card in the camera a message says I need to initialize the card.  Of course, I can't find my instruction book that came with the camera.  My e-mail is: [email protected]  Thank you so much.

Exactly as described by other user. I downloaded my pics, went to take more pics later onto the same card & got the message regarding card not initialized. I've used this same card many times without this problem. It's a 1GB card. How do I initialize this thing?????

The S3000 has a 512MB limit according to Fuji. Ther is also no firmware upgrade to address this issue. However I loaded a 1GB Olympus M type card into th S3000, which was pre-fornatted and worked straight away. After putting the card into the reader in my laptop, and then returning to the camera, the camera identified the card as not initialized. I tried to format the card in the camera but this didn't work.

To fix this I connected the camera to the computer using the USB cable located the camera card via My Computer, left clicked on and did a quick format in FAT (FAT16). After this the camera read the card and indicated 1305 frames available at 3M.

Ok iv only jus purchased the 3000 on ebay, and am waiting to receive it, however from what your describing it sounds like the memory card needs re-formatting, look thru the options on the camera and there should be an option 2 reformat the card, if this doesnt solve the problem then email me rick [at] lxrixta.co.uk with the make and model and ill look into it furthur for you!

Yes, you'll need to format the xD Picture Card. You may be able to do this inside the camera in the options, if not - you'll need to connect it to your computer to get it to appear as a drive letter in "My Computer". Select the new drive in My Computer, this will be your card, right click it and click Format, then proceed to format it. This should sort your problem out.

Turn camera from "off" to "play" ( photo view..._

Pressing the “MENU/OK” button as you would to erases files. There is an option to format the xD-Picture Card. Formatting erases protected files, but allows you to then take photos.

SOURCE: PUT NEW XD PICTURE CARD

A lot of times you can't just put in a new memory card especially one that is bigger then the one you were using. Make sure that your camera is capable of using a 2 GB memory card. If it's an older camera then I would say that the 2 GB is to large for your camera to handle. Try and replace it with the one you were using to see if your camera is ok. If it does work then your card is to big. You can check the manufactor web site or google it.

I am getting a message that reads "card not initialized". It is a new XD picture card. How do I initialize the card?

To initialize the new XD card, you go into the camera's setup menu and navigate to the format function. Format the card and you might be ready to go. If your new card has an "M" or an "H" preceeding the XD, your camera will need a firmware upgrade before it will recognize the card. Here's a link to the firmware upgrade procedure. http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/a340/fupd.html

If you have a new xD-Picture card that says "card not initialized" go to set-up and when it says "format OK? Erase All Data" press the triangle on the left of the menu/ok circle so it goes to "OK" then it will change to an hour glass going up and down until it stops and MAGIC! the card is initialized, at least it worked for this time for me.
