Loss of fuel pressure, loss of spark is likely. What you need to do is have the fault codes in the memory of the engine control computer. You will need an OBD2 fault code reader, it hooks to the diagnostic link port under the dash in front of the driver.

I'd guess: not enough fuel flow. could be a fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pressure regulator. No check engine codes? I would think there should be some that would help diagnose.

You may be having an intermittent failure with the fuel pressure regulator - checking the fuel pressure when the truck won't start may pinpoint this problem. If the pressure looks OK, this same problem can be caused by the ignition system as well (ignition coil or control module).

How long does it run? A few seconds or minutes? Sounds fuel related. Generally rebuilding or replacing the carburetor will fix it if it starts and dies after a few seconds. If it runs for a few minutes then we need to look at something else for the issue

have your alternator checked,it may not be working and is not charging your battery,thats why it dies so fast and won't start again.

if I'm reading this right...

Disconnect the plug to the cold start injector. Even if you have an issue with the engine running then dying after a few seconds after doing this, if you don't smell fuel after disconnecting the cold start injector and try to restart it, the cold start time injector time switch may be failing.

Buy a can of starting fluid and have someone start the engine then spray short bursts of the fluid around all the intake fittings. If spraying the fluid in any particular area keeps the engine running, I'd start looking for leaks around that area.


It does sound like an AFM or COR issue considering it dies after a few seconds, but the fuel smell when trying to restart the engine may be a separate issue that needs corrected / isolated first.it will keep running.

Did you get fuel recently, might have something in fuel e.g water? or even the fuel filter getting clogged.

well if it starts and then takes a minute to start up all the way from trying to die or cut out the you need to turn up you engines idle speed or if it starts then dies and won't start again wait a couple of minutes and then try to start it back up beacuase it could mean your engine has gotten a little flooded or you don't have you vehicle's engine idiling speed adjusted fast enough.
