I had the same problem. First, try downloading any patches that maybe be new, they can help.
then once in the game menu, go to the options and decrease the visual effects and graphics. they made this 2nd game to run in defalt mode with HIGH graphic computers, but if you just lower things to 800x600 and then set things to low, the gaame should run better, wont be perfect, but you will be able to play it with out getting mad at it..lol
I had the same problem since 6 months ago and I cannot fix it yet. My PC was running this game perfectly and the problem was suddenly happen. I've installed all of the patch of the game but nothing improve. I do think it's not the hardware problem but one of the "Windows Updates" because I haven't touching my hardware but I do windows updates very frequently. My PC: Windows XP 32bit edition, Geforce 8400GS. 4GB of RAM.
yes id does sound like one of the updates could be the problem, XP did have its problems with updates bugging games and other software. Did you try reducing the game resolution in the game? i know that can help at times.
and turning music off in the game can help as well, try turning off things that are not necessary for the game to play, that will use less processor power and in-trade should run a little faster.
