Upgraded to v8.7r5 -- now have wan PPOE connection issue.

I just upgraded my router to v8.7r5 and after a few days, presumebly the PPOE expired, the router no longer was connected to the internet.
I tried rebooting the modem (Westel) which is in bridge mode, and the router as well several times.
What I finally found out was that I needed to manually Establish WAN Connection....
Once I did the manual connection, my connection was restored.
If I restart the router, then the wan connection is not being made.

I am thinking that I might have to default the router as some corruption might have taken place.
Anyone have any ideas before I take that action?

SOURCE: netopia 2247NWG for smarttelecom

Sorry if my writing is not clear I dont have best english.
If you move your router from eircom to smartelecom you have to change security protocol from "chap" eircom to "pap" smarttelecom.
Now Do this few steps.
Go to start menu on windows find and click run.
type: cmd and press ok
When you will see black screen that will be command prompt.
Now you have to type your defaul ip adress. To check your defaul ip adress type ipconfig in command prompt and press enter.
Default Gateway is your default ip adress. Now when you know your ip type in command prompt:
telnet yourip 23 and press enter, for example:
telnet 192.168.1.254 23
If you didnt setup any password to login to the router you will be loged automaticly and you will see "Netopia-2000/18861188>
But if you have setuped login and password to your router you have to first type your login and press enter, then password and press enter to have acces.
next is easy type:
configure and press enter
ppp and press enter
set and press enter
now you have to pressing enter about till you will see line:
option <chap-only> [ off : on : pap-only : chap-only ]:
on this line type pap-only and press enter
now start pressing enter till you see:
Netopia-2000/18861188 <ppp>>>
then type save and press enter.
When you see line:
Configuration data saved you can close command prompt window.
From this moment your router will be work with smarttelecom.

SOURCE: Need nat type 2-PS3 Cable ISP digital phone modem wireless route

you can put your ps3 in a dmz zone. if still does not work its not your router. u can keep your ps3 in dmz and get your router to open ports. u can call your router company. If still does not work its not your router more than likely. It might be your modem. i have at&t and that was my issue. i went to dmz on modem and allowed it to pass through dmz zone and ip addresses to pass through. but make sure on your comp u have spyware or something. Your ps3 can not get virus.

You will need to get the right User ID and Password before proceeding.

Also make your Verizon 6100G LAN port is connected to your BEFW11S4 WAN port.

Westell 6100g has one dataport, but I want to link to my Netgear WPN824 wireless router. XP machine.

Connect the NetGear WAN/ Internet port to the WAN/Internet port of the Westell cable modem, then connect your PC to any of the ports on the router
Then:

Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

DSL connection not being shared by Linksys RV042 Dual Wan router

Looks like your "modem" is actually a gateway, as is common with DSL devices. It's acting like a modem and a router. So you're actually connecting a router to your RV42. You could get this to work a couple ways.
1. Leave the modem acting like a router and configure the WAN connection on the RV42 as a static IP, and use the IP of the modem. You may also be able to use "obtain IP automatically" in the WAN connection. This way, the modem stores your PPOE information and just forwards the traffic to the RV42. Any devices behind the RV42 won't know the difference.
2. Configure the modem as just a modem (no routing). Your ISP should be able to talk you through this, but in the modem configuration you can look for what's usually called "bridged mode." Then you would enter the PPOE information in the RV42. This is my preferred method.

Using Wireless + PPPoE at the same time kills router. SMCWBR14-G2

Hi,
From your description, I am assuming you have a direct ethernet connection from an RJ45 connection in a jack in the wall. If this is the case, then you would just need to purchase a wireless router (linksys, D-link, netgear, etc). Connect the ethernet connection from the wall to the routers internet or WAN port. You will need to access the routers firmware configuration and set it to connect with PPPoE, so get your username and password from your ISP if you are not sure what it is.

You will be able to continue to have the PC plugged into the router with an ethernet cable, and then run the laptop with a wireless connection, just be sure to configure the laptop with the security key if applicable.

If you were using a software PPPoE connection on your PC, quit using it. Just set your network adapters on both computers to DHCP, and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps

Sounds defective. Disconnect it, flip it over and give it a smell. If you smell burnt wires or plastic (typically a faint smell, but a smell nonetheless) the router's toast.

D-link WBR-2310 has serious drop out problems

I'm pretty sure that downgrading the firmware to 1.0.3 will work. I had been running at this level for quite some time and for some reason I decided to upgrade to the latest version which started the problems for me. I am downgrading to this now and I expect better results. All of the firmware versions are available at http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=470&sec=0. You pick the right hardware revision. PLEASE NOTE: Save off/remember your settings as when you change the firmware it resets all of them back to system defaults.

Wireless connection keeps dropping after about a day.

I had the same problem (see Jan 09) but I found the solution:
I had trouble with the router resetting from time to time, that was fixed by upgrading to firmware 1.05. But I still had the wireless problem.
For me, disabling 'UPnP' (advanced->advanced network) and disabling turbo G mode (setup->wireless setting) did the trick.
Work great since then, both my laptop and my media center stays connected, going on one month now.
Hope it can helps other.

Hi There Joecohn,

Definitely, the username and password for your PPPoE connection is correct since that it works perfectly with your Linksys router. If you are getting a WAN IP Address from the status or summary page of your D-link router then you can lower down the MTU size of your router to 1492. If it didn’t work, upgrade or reflash the firmware, reset it back to the factory default and reconfigure the router for PPPoE connection again.

If it will not obtain an IP address or even if it has a WAN IP but can’t go online then we can consider it as a hardware failure on the D-Link router. Have it replaced.
