Having fixed the sound i thought my problems were over, but i have a new problem :(
I was recently checking the tracks on my carbon from within RMM when i clicked 'play' on one of the tracks. The carbon just suddenly completely stopped and shut down; now it won't turn on at all. I have tried opening the back and securing the hard drive (in case it dislodged at some point) and using the reboot button however nothing I've tried has worked. Is the hard-drive permanently damaged and needs replacing?
I hope it doesn't need replacing as i have only recently found out how to back up the tracks i had on the carbon. A break will mean i have lost everything :(
If anyone can confirm if its completely broken or can still be salvaged, i would greatly appreciate it.
Regards, Nemp.
I presume that your computer does not pick it up at all.
Try taking out the hard drive carefully and putting it in a usb card reader. Then if it picks up, format it, put it back in your carbon. Your pc should then pick it up and then reformat it (may be needed) and reload the firmware (from: http://www.rioaudio.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=215)
If it doesn't pick up then your hard drive will be bust :(
for less than a 10er you can buy a 1GB CF card and replace it with that (see my post: http://www.fixya.com/support/r590688-replace_broken_hard_drive_in_rio_carbon)
Hope this sheds a bit of light on your problem

Your hard drive might have 'stuck' like has happened in a few people's carbons. This is often where the the arm for reading the hard drive gets stuck/gets confused as to it's position and needs tapping to sort it out.
Regarding your battery life I'm not sure.
Try flattening it then charging it for a day or two. I'm not aware of anything that you could have done to wreck the battery life of your carbon apart from shorting the contacts when you had it open.

Well i tried taking the hard drive out an putting it back in and it now works... Perhaps it dislodged at some point although i'm mystified to be honest. I downloaded the 3.04 update which means if my scroll wheel ever dislodges again i will be able to control it manually.
Also, since putting the hard drive back in, the battery life seems insanely low (about 5 hours- poor for a carbon) have i done somethin wrong?
