I have the same camera with the same problem. You can try formatting the card using the camera. With the camera set as if you are going to look at what's on the card, press the Menu/OK button. Move up to the word Format, press Menu/OK button, FORMAT OK? should display. Press Menu/OK button. This will format your card. Unfortunately, I think there is something wrong with my camera. Still getting 'card not initialized'.

I have the exact same issue. WHen I try to format, I see a "Card Error" message ! I suppose the camera has a limitation as to the memory size it can address ? Anyone tried with a CF-II card smaller than 4 GB ?

I have a Fujifilm Finepix A600 and when I turn it on I get CARD ERROR Can you tell me how to fix it

You may have improver card fitted. Please remove and re fit the card. If problem persist , please try another good / new card. If you have no problem with new card, your existing/previous card is broken.

My s7000 batterries do not last very long i am wondering if something is draining them down

PRESS RELEASE
Release Date: 12 January 2004

Fujifilm today announced that a number of early FinePix S7000 Zoom digital cameras may experience battery power depletion when used with some CompactFlashâ„¢ memory cards.

This fault does not occur when the S7000 is used with either an xD-Picture Cardâ„¢ or a Microdriveâ„¢, nor does it occur in any other Fujifilm products that offer a CompactFlashâ„¢ storage facility, such as the FinePix S2 Pro, S602, S602 Pro or M603.

Cameras with serial numbers above 34L60001 (inclusive) were produced after 15 December 2003 and therefore will definitely not experience this battery drain problem.

In the short term, the problem can be avoided by unloading then re-loading the batteries just after the camera is switched off. The camera's power supply will then perform normally.

Fuji s602z CF II card not initializing

I've bought a SanDisk ExtremeIII 4GB CFI card. Ofcourse, at the beginig nothing worked. Camera format command worked neither (initializing problem,...). I then formated my card through a car reader on fat16 and now everything works. Just make this command: format <volume>: /FS:FAT. After checking and formathing the card, you will be asked to go on by 64K size of cluster. say Yes.

My S7000 has the message "card not initialized"

The S7000 cannot handle cards larger than 2GB.
If you need 4GB you can also fit a 2GB type 2 compact flash card which is the american standard.
For europe you will get a type 1 card this will also fit it is just slightly thinner.

The batteries were drained in my FinePix S7000 camera whthe camera was not in use.

The CompactFlash card may have caused the batteries to drain. Some solid state CompactFlash cards consume power while inserted in the FinePix S7000 even if the camera is turned OFF. Fujifilm recommends removing the CompactFlash card when the camera is not in use. Microdrives and xD-Picture Cards do not exhibit this problem.
