I have used my 405 for more than 5 hours and have not had any problems with the battery life running out. I have had mine since Apr/09. I do make sure it is fully charged before use the day of the race. I also make sure that the I found the sattelites the day before if you are running from a new location.

I bought a previously owned garmin forerunner 405. I can't register it as my own on the garmin website because it has already been registered. How can I switch "ownership" to myself?

Quits running and then starts back

I don't know what the trouble is with your watch. I can tell you every watch I ever owned ran 5 minutes behind. No matter when or where I set it nor how often I set it, within 24 hours, it was 5 minutes behind, never 6, never 4, always 5. After years of questions, I just accepted that my wrist watches would always be 5 minutes behind.

I presume the watch is new ... so cleaning is not a realistic problem. Maybe you should return it to the place you purchased it from and see what they have to offer.

"LoBATT" stays on in TIME mode (doesn't flash) ?

"lobatt" display is the watch battery. The foot pod uses the LED to indicate low battery and the heart rate monitor wont give a reading.

I can't update the firmware on my forerunner 405 . The watch gives a transfer unsuccesful message, have tried repeatedly.

There are two steps for the firmware update - two bad Garmin doesn't warn people upfront.

The first update is preparing for the ANT stick - it takes about two minutes.
The second step is the core of the firmware(software per Garmin) update which takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on how busy the Garmin Connect site is.

Since you already got through and got the "unsuccessful" message, I assume you already know how to start the update properly.
To finish it - Make sure you do not interrupt the process, just let it run through the 2 steps mentioned above.  And be patient - the 2nd step follows the 1st step automatically.  Don't touch the bezel and change screen during the update, just leave it alone.  It took me a few times to get it done successfully because after the 1st step finished, I started to flipping screens to find out if it get updated to ver 2.50, before I found out there would be step 2 coming automatically.
If you see the process bar moving after the 2nd step and see "software loading" you are in for good.

Hope this may help.

Turn off garmin

I just find it unbelievable that there is no off button on this watch. I dont want to use it as an everyday watch..its too big and ugly for that. Also you have to remember to turn off the gps as it will drain the watch overnight. You have to switch the gps on every time you do a run. I simple on and off button is all that is needed. It is just a matter of turning it on when you go for a run and you are ready to go. Same with all 'latest ' products..they give you the improvement over the last model but give you a downside...which will probably be corrected on the next incarnation....very clever marketing.!

How do I get the Garmin Forerunner 405 into powersave mode?

It should go into power save mode on its own after a period of inactivity. Make sure your timer is stopped and your workout has been reset. If the timer is running, it senses activity and stays in normal operating mode.

I just solved another problem where a 405 would go into power save mode but would not stay there. After a minute, it would come out and go back to normal mode and quickly drain the battery as it went back and forth between the two. I installed a software update to get version 2.30 (mine came with 2.10) and that appears to have fixed the problem.

Go to Settings, System, About and check which version of the software you have.
