I bought 1 box of belden cat5e for LAN. when i test it with LAN tester the cables are good but when i connect it to the modem/hub it is not connecting.. please help me.. thanks..

If you've tested the cable and your not getting a link light, there is a posibility that either the port in the switch or the network card is bad.You can try moving the cable to an existing working port on the switch to see if it links up. If not then try another device like a laptop or printer with a NIC card on the cable

    i tried that. the hub and net card are working. when i use other cable it is working. only with belden cable. any more ideas? thanks..

    Just so i've got it straight, the cable was termed in B standard tested good, and theres no link light. I'd re-test the connections to see if there's a partial connection on one of the crimp ends.

    When your saying link are you talking about a link light or access to your network? also, whats the footage on the wire you ran?

    link= no connection/ no light

    laptop/pc to hub
    laptop/pc to modem

    but ok with LAN tester..

I am having problem with my network. I am wondering why the new cabling I made I having problem connecting to my assisting network. I use belden cat5e and did not even exceed 30 meters lenght. pls help..
Ethernet cables can be 100 meters in length. I would imagine you didn't punch the cable correct.
Make sure you have the wires in the correct order if they are not it wont work. Just stick to making straight through cables as most routers, switches and hubs are now smart enough to reverse logic if needed.

If your having trouble making cables I'd suggest just buying some from www.monoprice.com they only cost about $4 for 18' cables

HI, I have two 3com patch panels 3C17302 Superstack 3 Switch 4250T, connected to a switch panel. One of the patch panels does not work e.g. the connected pc's are not able to have Lan connection. Only...
I don't know anything about these units, nor do I have time to source any docs for you, but maybe you can try connecting a PC directly to the port your patch panel is connecting the the switch from, you can at least see if that port is working.
My next and only other suggestion is to invest in a "LAN cable tester". In my area, you can find cheap ones for U$20.
The tester will allow you to check connectivity between any two ports, and allows you to test both patch links and individual CAT5/6 cables.

Setup belkin wireless network
Hi,
1.Connect a Cat5 cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your cable or DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Connect to Modem Internet/WAN" port on the back of the Belkin Router.
2.Connect a Cat5 cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of any desktop or stationary computers and then plug the other end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on the back of the Belkin Router. Start with port one and work your way up with subsequent computer connections.
3.Turn the Belkin Router on by plugging the router into a power outlet. Allow 30 seconds for the router to fully boot up. All computers tethered to the modem via a Cat5 cable have access to the Internet.
4.Open the Wi-Fi Wizard on your laptop and turn on the Wi-Fi antenna. Once turned on, the Wizard finds all network connections in your area. Connect to your network to establish an Internet connection. Complete this step for each computer not tethered to the Belkin Router with a Cat5 cable.

I have Cable Modem connected to a Linksys WRT54G, From that I have a MiLAN MIL-SM801P. Do I need a special CAT5 cable between the two? THX.
normal patch cord can do or you can connect thru wireless connection make sure you putting correct ip addressa nd dns address in lan card properties.

Please clarify what you mean by ''Connect with an ethernet cable''
Ethernet cable means CAT5 or UTP for others or LAN cable. The connection should be LAN port of your computer to LAN1 of your router.

And you can connect also the internet cable usually ethernet cable from your internet provider directly to (ethernet cable)WAN port of your router to get signal from your internet provider.

Also if you get this message, this could also means you still don't set up or configure the router's settings to communicate when your LAN and router. They must see each other to access the router's utility webpage.

How do i hook up a router
Let's proceed first with the physical connectivity. Please follow the steps below:

1. Make sure that your computer is working when directly connected to the modem.

2. Connect the CAT5 cable of your modem to the WAN port of your GWA504.

3. You should have another CAT5 cable. That CAT5 cable will be connected to any one of the LAN ports on the back of that router.

4. Connect the other end of the CAT5 cable to the network card of your computer.

5. After the physical connection, just let me know and we will proceed with the next steps. Because your statement is very broad. We have to consider lots of things here. Please reply so that I could further assist you.

Wow, a lot of information but I'm unclear as to what you are trying to do.

Are you connecting the T20 directly to the T40 using a cat5 cable and then trying to access the internet on the T20 via the modem?

Connecting the two computer together using a normal cat5 will not work, you need to use a crossover cable otherwise you are connecting the send to the send and the receive to the receive.
You can also use a hub, a switch or a router if you have any of those on hand.

As for the modem, I suggest you unplug the telephone line from the modem and plug it into a phone and see if you can hear a dial tone. If you cannot hear a tone either the extension is bad (replace) or you outlet is defective. If you can hear a tone, the modem card may be defective.

I have heard of people doing it.
However, you will need to pay the cable company for an additional line / service, as the MAC address of the modem has to be registered with them in order for it to work.

Connection problem between modem router and hub
