Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Freezer making a grinding noise on and off

If it is a metal to metal grinding noise it could be a warning of a potential compressor failure. BUT try to localize the sound before you panic!
It could also be one of the fans wobbling or rubbing against the housing.

Kenmore 65234 bottom refrigerator has a hum/rattle for about 30 seconds then quiet, then after a couple minutes, it does it again. Sometimes for an hour this repeats and sometimes does it for a few cycles...

Might be the compressor relay is fixin to depart this life. themobilian_1937.jpg
If this relay starts sticking all the windings will remain active and overheat the compressor. The overload will tae notice and shut the whole shebang down. Once it cools and makes contact the circus continues until the relay finally disintegrates. The last death throws will be a constant clicking followed by noticeable cooling loss in the ice box.

Loud humming noise (vibration) from freezer section when running. Amana refrigerator (freezer on bottom) model BC21VW

Remove the back panel and see if the fan is turning. You will need it in the running cycle with the door switch closed. The noise your hearing is probally the fan assembly AP4008960. Make sure it is mounted tight and the back panel is not rubbing or loose. If the fan is making noise with the panel removed replace.

Refrigerator not cooling...makes hissing noise

From your problem description I would say it sounds like maybe the condenser fan is not running. If that fan does not run, the compressor will overheat, and get very unhappy, LOUDLY. There is a fiberboard cover on the back of the unit, unplug the unit, remove the cover and inspect the fan, it should turn freely if you nudge it with your finger. If it does not turn freely, you will need to make it so by lube, removing foreign object (dead mouse once for me) dust dragons etc... or replace the fan if necessary.

Amana refrigerators is not staying cold and freezer is not freezing. Makes a "humming" sound, on and off, like a low "grind" noise, or like the noise an airconditioner makes prior to kicking on.

Mine had the same problem, and I had a tech out today who determined it's the motor inside the freezer. It's (the fan) not running. It's a $100 part, but if your refrigerator is new enough, it's probably worth the investment to go ahead and have it fixed.

Amana Bottom Freezer door when shut starts a noise

The light is switched on and off by a small lever which is pushed when closing or opening the door. This operates a microswitch. It would not make any grinding noise. Grinding noise can come from the fanmotor which would also stop when the fridge door is open.

Amana Refridgerator Freezer, French Doors

Most side-by-sides have a length of hose at the bottom of the freezer that send the water to the ice maker and water dispenser. take the back off so you can see this hose, there may be a kink in it, or a clog.
