This is almost certainly a driver issue. I know that a lot of ATI cards when installed have problems with HDMI ports. Updating your drivers and installing the Realtek High Definition Codecs (found here) will generally fix the issue.
If that doesn't work, let me know and I will get back to you. If you need more help, be sure to tell me what graphics card you are using and if the HDMI port in question is on that card.
Check fans have not came loose make sure all graphic cards and so on are tight, make sure no wires have falling into fans or are rubbing them. hope this helps in some ways.
goto Control Panel and look for Sounds
open Sounds and can you see any playback devices ?

Hi Byteguy, I believe I can help but I need more information, I believe you're looking for the SATA Controller driver, you probably won't find these from Acer. Does your computer have an Intel or ATI chipset? You'll likely find the driver from one of them.
