I have a Sony cordless phone .. SPP-A700 .. handset #B401443. I got no dial tone, so I decided my battery back needed replacement. I charged the new battery pack for more than 12 hours, but there is still no dial tone. Neither the handset nor the base have ever been dropped. Any suggestions for fixing the problem will be appreciated.

Try taking batteries out, but also unplug base station. The aim is to disperse all power in the phone so that it resets itself. I would leave everything unplugged for 24 hours and then reassemble and see if the problem has gone. Its worked for me loads of times with different electrical appliances. Hope that helps.
Any store offering phones will have replacement cables for low prices; replace this first.
Your wall jack could also be damaged although the ones used by installers is generally very long-lived.
