Hi Listen for a Dial Tone

  • When you pick up the receiver of your home telephoneWe have a RCA model #25413RE3-A and lost the - mag-glass_10x10.gif, you should hear the distinctive sound of a dial tone. If the tone is not present, one of several factors may be in play. First, ensure the line is actually available by verifying that any other telephones in the home are securely on the hook and not in use; be sure to verify that any computers or fax machines are also not in an "off hook" condition. If all other telephones and devices are securely on the hook, and at least one of those phones has a dial tone, there may be a broken telephone wire at the non-functional phone that needs to be replaced. If none of the phonesmag-glass_10x10.gif are able to get a dial tone, you may be able to test the line by plugging a working telephone into the modular telephone jack found inside your network interface device (NID) outside the home. This device is a small plastic box where the telephone company's incoming wires terminate and the home wiring begins; simply open the box and plug a working telephone into the available telephone jack. If this jack is not working, call your local telephone carrier for further service.
  • Listen for Static

    • Anonymous Aug 03, 2010

Static is a condition that may be caused by a variety of different conditions. If static is occurring on only one telephone, first test the telephone jack by plugging a working telephone into that jack; if the static goes away, replace the broken phone unit. If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed data service, verify that a working DSL filter is installed on the telephone. If a working telephone is present and any necessary DSL filters are in place but the static does not disappear, professional service may be required on the telephone jack where the static is heard. If static is heard on all telephones in the home, verify that the network interface device (NID) located just outside the home is secure and dry, as water inside the NID is a common cause of static on home telephones. If the NID is both dry and secure, or if a telephone plugged into the NID also produces static, call your local telephone company for service.

      Listen for Crosstalk

Crosstalk is a semi-rare telephone condition in which one party on a private line can hear -- and sometimes be heard by -- another private telephone subscriber. Crosstalk conditions almost always require telephone company intervention, as the cause is generally found either in the telephone network wiring or in the telephone company's central office (CO). If you are unable to call your telephone company for service because of the crosstalk condition, you may be able to reach it by dialing 6-1-1 from any public telephone.

      Look for Other Complex Problems

While the three problems described above are far and away the most common trouble complaints experienced by home telephone users, other -- generally more complex -- issues do occur from time to time. Some of these conditions may be serious such as the inability to place or receive calls (this situation is caused by a faulty line card in the telephone company's switch). Other conditions such as improperly functioning voice mail service or a forgotten voice mail password may require only a short phone call to the telephone company's voice mail help desk for resolution. Finally, the inability to dial certain numbers -- toll and/or international numbers, for instance -- may be because the toll services have been intentionally blocked by the telephone company and may require an additional deposit to restore service.

If you continue to experience telephone problems, or if your problem is somewhat more esoteric, do not hesitate to contact your local telephone company's repair department for service. The telephone company is responsible for repair and maintenance of the telephone network up to the network interface device (NID) on the outside of your home, so any repair activity conducted on that portion of the telephone network should not incur a charge.

I cannot get the caller ID to work on all phones. We are currently using 4 phones in the office and the caller ID works on 3 of the 4.

The RCA 25413 phone does not have caller ID capability. I have included a link where you can download the manual. On page 16 of the manual it says in a note that caller ID does not apply to the 25413 model phone.

According to the manual, the RCA 25413 does not support Caller ID. I have provided a link where you can download the manual. The manual is for model numbers 25413 and 25414. On page 8 it details how to turn caller ID on/off for each line under Ringer Tone heading item 6 Note, but the note says it does not apply for model 25413. Hope this helps.

Our intercom on the phone will not turn off and we have not been able to find the manuel.

We had the same problem...Each phone line needs to have a separate phone I.D. You probably have two phones with the same number or one phone does not have a number assigned to it. You can do this automatically. Press menu, phone options, then phone I.D. and press select and the system will automatically assign an I.D. to the phone. Do this for each phone on your system and the problem should be solved.

This should not be advertised as a free service. It is misleading

    Intercom problem

make sure your wiring that connects lines from dmarc into the unit is consistant. Line1 must be line1 on all phones, line2 must be line2 etc.
After line appearance verified follow instructions in the manual and everything should work. If it doesnt contact manufacturer for assistance
