Your owners manuel shoul tell you the recomended oil , the auto parts store can also tell you for free sometimes its best to write down the fin number if you dont know engine size etc.

Most probably it is synthetic oil ad unless you own the tool to open the computer you will need a BMW tech to reset the light or at least a certified BMW mechanic.
You really cannot mis it. It is at the front of the engine, top center. Black can-shaped housing. Unscrew the top of the housing and replace the paper element inside.
u need to drain the whole system out, take the pipe off at the power steering resoviour and take all the fluid out. next connect the supply pipe and fill up the resoviour, next put the return pipe in a suitable container to collect the old fliud. keep filling and emptying the fliud untill you can see clean fliud (like cherryade). thats it
