IR frequency determination

I have a remote control for controlling a Sirius S5 DVR security camera recorder. I've asked the company I purchased the recorder from what the frequency the remote control transmits at and they don't know and say to have the remote tested to determine the frequency. I use Xantech "IR over coax" equipment to control my satelite receiver from another room and works great for years. It handles IR frequencies in the range of 30KHz thru 100KHz. The Sirius S5 remote will not work with the Xantech equipment therefore the remote must be operating outside the 30k-100khz range. How do I find out the frequency so I can provide control from another room? Would converting IR to RF and back to IR with an "IR repeater" work?

The remote could be using RF, which is why your Niles equipment cannot handle it. There is no way to duplicate the RF or convert it to an IR signal.

If the remote is using IR, make sure the batteries are full and the light is low when you are learning the codes with tne Niles equpment. There is no way if it's IR that the freq is > 100.

Hello! Daniel Busa with Dish Network. That would be a case of remote interference. You'll need a model 6.3 or 6.4 remote. You can set it to a uhf frequency instead of an ir that will correct the issue.

I have a Bose Lifestyle V30 surround sound system and the Bose remote does not function with any of the listed remote codes for the Panasonic. I have a Panasonic TC-P58V10.

You need to use the IR emitter that came with the Bose V30 system. Bose employs a proprietary RF frequency remote which communicates to the hidden central control head. You plug in the emitter to the processor unit and run the emitters to the IR 'eye's' of the equipment you want to control. Once all this is done then and only then can you go through the remote codes to control a particular device. The Bose V30 has 2 IR emitters that come with the unit to control 2 devices. You can expand on that buy buying a IR emitter bridge that has several inputs for other devices.

Now when it comes to a DVR I am not so sure the Bose universal remote will work all the playback and FF and record control buttons and a DVD or VCR. I hear there is a new BOSE remote on the market that can do that but I have yet to see it in person or ask a sales rep about it. Sometimes they are non-tech's so its no help : (

DirecTV receiver R15 won't respond to remote RC23

Well, I took the DVR apart and found the power board completely intact, no bulging capacitors. However, the Mother Board had a 220uf/50volt cap that was bulging, so I replaced it. By the way, 'DigiKey' is the only place to go for electronic parts. They'll hook you up! The DVR still wouldn't respond to the remote. Darn it!
So I took both of my DVR's apart and swapped out the Front Board (the one with the Photoamplifier in it) and the DVR would now respond to the remote. OK, so now what do I do. I still have one DVR with a bad Front Board. I started to look on ebay for an old used R15 500 that I could swap parts from...remember, I own my eqipment and the goal is to preserve what I have recorded on the Hard Drive. R15's were going for around $50 -$80. Then I got to thinking. I still had an old non-DVR Direct TV Receiver in my closet I never planned to use again. My thought was: even though it wasen't the exact model receiver, it did use the same remote, so the frquency that the Photoamplifier worked at should be compatible.
So I took apart this receiver unsoldered the Photoaplifier. I then removed the Photoamplifier from my malfunctioning DVR and installed the part from my unused Receiver and it fixed it. So long story short(too late for that) the Photoamplifier was faulty. I tried doing some cross checking and a company in China called Raytron makes the part. The failed part did not have a part # and Raytron has several different Photoamplifiers that operate at different frequencies. This made it impossible to find the right part without schematics or knowing what the freqency is. So at least we now know what caused the non responce to the remote.

From what you have written, when you try to record on your DVR the remote stops working, is that correct? How long has this been happening? Have you received a new remote? If yes and it is still happening, you are probably getting IR interference from some source in that room. It could be from a florescent lamp, another player, or even the TV. Is the receiver in a open space or in an enclosed area? The IR sensor has to have a direct line of sight to work properly. You may also check on the receiver if anything is obstructing the sensors, maybe dust. I hope this helps.

URC-50 Uninversal Remote won't control a Dish VIP 612 DVR. Both Companies say one is RF and the other IR so they can't "talk" to each other. How can a person "get around this" without buying another...

I don't know about the 612 but the 722 I have has green tabbed control for IR control of output 1 and by default of tuner 1 and controls the OTA tuner and will work with many IR remotes if set to address 1--they don't send the address. The blue tabbed one is for RF-controlled output 2 and tuner 2. Setting it to single (vs. dual) mode allows either remote to control tuner 1 and swap to tuner 2 and do PIP. Unfortunately the 612 does not have this mode.I haven't had a combo remote work well with tuner 1 even. It is much better to use the Dish remote for most of the work, well only volume and power on the TV. There are a lot of buttons most combo remotes will not have control of. Hey, I have 2 VIP722 and the TV remotes on the chair arm.Check with menu-menu to see which address code and control mode is set. But if manual allows and you can pull tab after opening battery slide and change switch beneath, you may be able to use as IR remote in preparation for your combo, just to be sure controls sent correctly. (Hold Sat button until all light, press address 1, press # to set remote [lights go out], then press record to set receiver while you watch menu-menu. less than 10 sec per step.)-Ken
