Is it jammed?
Still has a CD/DVD still in it?
Is so try cycling the power to see if it will kick it out.

Otherwise it's most likely a hardware problem like a bad tray motor, broken gear, or perhaps a bad/stuck switch on the tray assembly.

If it's still under warranty, call the manufacture technical or customer support for a possible replacement.

Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo DVD tray is stuck in open position. Pressing close button results in slight jerking motion of tray followed by display of "close", then "load" ...

There is typically a small rubber belt or plastic gear that goes between the tray motor and the tray. Most modern units have the plastic gear. I would bet that it is missing a tooth or stripped its teeth or possibly fell off completely. You should be able to manually push the drawer in. To open it, there should be a small hole near the tray into which you can push a straightened-out paper clip.

Good luck!

My DVD tray on my Yamaha DV C6480 (it holds 5 DVDs) got stuck in the half open half closed position. It may have come off the track. I opened the case and reinstalled the DVD Tray. Now the tray...

This happens to us all the time. Here is the note I keep on how to fix it quickly:
When tray gets messed up, the drive wheel (with pegs that interlock with pegs on the tray) needs to be such that the tray slides in and out freely. Push tray all the way in. Turn on.

Hope that gives a hint.

When the open/close button is push , the DVD tray open and it close immediately without pushing button. The tray won't stay in the open positions.

check the close circuit switch inside the system. its maybe stuck, try to wiggle it a bit and it might work again.
the switch is at the end of the tray when it is closed, its a small black push botton swith.
be careful not to fry it when installing a new part

LG RHT 398H. DVD tray not closing, with or without DVD in tray. Tray closes upon request, then immediately opens again, and stays open. Any ideas please? Les

I've dismounted the unit and it seems that I have located the problem. The tray is connected to a wheel, so any displacement is translated into a rotation of this wheel. When the tray is near the close position, it releases a mechanism in order to position the lens. Summarising: if you have pushed the tray with your hand instead of pushing the button open/close, probably you have introduced a desynchonization. To solve this, when the tray is in close position, apply a small rotation to the wheel in order to compensate the desynchronization. There is not an exact position, but you need to try. A few degrees is enough. Regards

Having problem opening the tray

I have this same problem with my unit. Most of the time it works with the remote, but it doesn't with the buttons on the front of the unit. Most of the time I run my finger nail (don't laugh) around the tray door and it free's itself. I'm not sure what's sticking in there to cause the problem, but...the old fingernail does the trick. You may want to check and see if there is anything on the tracks and I'm thinking about a little wd-40 sprayed on a cloth and then rubbed genlty on the sides of the tray...be careful not to spray the unit itself or expose anything on the inside...it can't hurt to try, but then again, you might want to make sure it won't mess anything else up. Hope this helps.

there are very tricky mechanical devices that detect when the trays are closed and in what position they are in
A gear or mechanical piece is not in correct order or not functioning properly and will need intense studying to determine which position they all should be in at door closed , laser mech. position , standby position
can you upload a photo of the inside of the cd mechanism?

Disc tray cannot be opened

Hi, The unit is in initialization/reset mode immediately after powerup. It does a self diagnostic sequence. When a fault is detected, it actually locks up till the fault is removed/repaired. A couple of things you can do: 1. Unplug the unit from the mains for a couple of hours; 2. Check your manual if there is a hard/full reset sequence/button and perform it; 3. Remove the topcover and inspect the loading tray. There is a possibility that a CD is stuck, lodged or skewed inside; 4. There is also a possibility that the loading mechanism is stuck, defective belt/gear; 5. if the unit is still under warranty, require service or replacement; or 6. if no longer under warranty, seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
