Replace Tecumseh engine with a Honda

I have an OLDER TB tiller. probably built in the 80's. I 'think' it is the smaller model, maybe the pony? I have not used it in about 15 yrs and the motor does not run anymore. What I KNOW about it: It has 8" wheels and a Tecumseh engine. Not sure of the hp.

I want to replace the engine with a Honda if possible, but I need some info in order to buy the right type. It 'appears' the shaft is 11/16 diameter, but I am not familiar with any engine having that size. Bigger than 5/8, but smaller than 3/4. What would it be? It does not appear to be tapered. The bolt pattern appears to be either 2 1/2 or 2 5/8". Does you records give any info on these specs?

Great machine, I had one. The points need replacement. Look for a gadget that replaces the points. I found mine in PepBoys. Search the Internet, the cost was about $5.00.

NEED A MANUALC FOR TROY BUILT PONY TILLER THE ONLY NUMBER.I CAN FIND IS 20512CT

You can get this manual directly from the troybilt.com website. A lot of manufacturers have their manuals available and just out of curiosity I checked there and in they do have tillers like the one pictured here. Enter pony tiller in the search box and you'll get a page of their different models. Click the one you have and it opens into another window showing the tiller, and beneath it is a bar with "overview" Specs" "Accessories" and "Parts & Manual" You can download the manual and - "yippee!!" - it's even free.

Old Troy Built with model #HH60-105106F. What is

That's the engine number. It's a 6Hp Tecumseh. Go on ebay and buy the Troy Bilt parts manuals on CD for Horse Roto Tillers (if that's what it's on). I paid $8. Definitely worth it.

What year Troy Built Horse Tiller

The serial number is stamped on the upper right hand side of the gear housing. It is on a flat spot just above the wheel shaft. If it is a newer model it will be on a white sticker on top of the gear housing plate. If it has the T handle it is probably an older 1980's model. If you find the six digit number I can give you the year it was made.

Not getting spark

I would check that I didn't have a key sheared off in the flywheel, that the start/stop switch isn't faulty, and that there is no missing or weak flywheel magnet. Hope this helped and best wishes.

I can't move my Troy-Bilt tiller unless it's running.

Some Troy Bilt Tillers were designed with a manual "free-wheel". If yours is a Tuffy (and maybe a Junior), you have to pull pins out of the wheels to move the tiller without starting it. The larger tillers, Pony's and Horses, had a lever to shift to release the wheels.

I need a new motor for horse model, serial no. 360331. which models fit this troy built.

Just about any engine with a 3/4" horizontal shaft that is internally threaded on the end and has the four bolt mounting pattern around the shaft will work. I have gone to Harbor Freight and purchased their 6.5 H.P. engine that is a Honda clone and it will work fine and only costs $100-150 dollars. The only difference is that it uses a metric bolt to hold the pulley on the shaft, the four mounting bolts are metric and you have to disconnect the low oil shutoff or the engine will die when you are tilling deep. It is a good low cost option for the Horse tillers.
