This is an older model 38L carrier a/c unit. The condenser fan was stopping after about twenty minutes of operation. I replaced the condenser fan and the 30uf/5uf dual run capacitor, with no results. I next replaced the motor start capacitor, with no results. The contactor is engaged when powered up, but nothing happens, no humming, nothing. I rechecked my connections, fuse box, etc. The schematic is too worn to read on the service panel, any help would be appreciated. -Jim
Are you sure you have high voltage going to the unit? One wire from fan lands on top left of contactor, the other two go to C and Fan on capacitor. Manually push in contactor, if no fan than no high voltage.

the mfd is stamped on the side of the capacitor.Be careful to kill the power and to NOT touch the terminals. The capacitor is capable of holding a charge even after power is disconnected.

if all is as you say you probably have a bad "dual motor run capacitor"

Hi, this is an odd voltage 380 volts. Is it a 3 phase unit? To get a 220 volt 50hz condenser fan motor, you will have to go through a refrigeration/air conditioning parts house and order this. 60hz you would have no problem finding one in stock. Carrier is a good unit, and have been around for many years. You shouldn't have any problems locating one.
Sincerely,

PS You will need to go through a wholesale parts house.

there is a run capacitor is probably bad.
you can purchase a replacement one from slakey brothers. However the capacitor will still have a charge after the power and wires are removed. after turning off the breaker use a long bladed screw driver and ground the electrical leads to discharge the capacitor before removing. take it with you to the supply house along with the model and serial number of the condensing unit.

Usually air fond froze if not moving enough air inside I.e. Dirty filter Or plugged coil ......or low on refrigerant

Hello augie, no results means what? The new motor does the same thing or runs for 20min & shuts down Does the compressor run?
martin, Sorry, The new motor makes no attempt to turn on, it is not receiving power. The compressor does not run either. They were both operational last week. When I turn the thermostat on, in my house to cool, the contactor is engaged outside on the unit , but neither motor turns on. I was careful to make notes for the connections on the dual run capacitor. Could it be wired differently? I used the same Dayton motor that was in unit. Any info is appreciated.-augie
Jim DO you have a volt meter?Check for power at the contactor. Is there power to the unit ?Check the curcit breaker in the house panel & check the disconnect box next to the unit outside for 220volts.
